Something big is on the horizon, as Destination D23 is coming back to Disney World from August 29th to 31st. With all the big news that Disney fans are closely watching for and waiting to be revealed, could this be the biggest Destination D23 yet?

Last summer (that puts us around August 2024), Disney hosted its D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California. It was filled with HUGE new reveals and big additions coming to Disney parks all around the world. We learned about Magic Kingdom’s Cars and Villains Land and Disneyland’s Avatar and Marvel expansions. The future is looking extremely bright for Disney parks. The big question is…what’s next?

Since the last D23 event, we have received a few more updates on the plans announced in August. We found out Monsters Inc. Land is taking over Muppets Courtyard, we learned Cars Land will be called Piston Peak, and construction progress is underway in Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom. Sorry, Disney, but now we want MORE — and we think that’ll be coming at Destination D23. Like we said, always watching…and here’s what we’ll be watching for at the D23 event this year!

Will There Be a Fifth Disney World Park?

We’ll be honest, we weren’t expecting an announcement about Disney World opening a fifth park this year. However, a report on Disney’s 2045 Comprehensive Plan was updated to meet the state requirements, so the possibility exists. No, really — the plan was presented to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) on May 23rd, 2025, and the Planning Board unanimously voted to approve the plan. Hmmm…..

Although a fifth park wouldn’t open for a loooong time, the plan does allow for the development of one major and two minor theme parks. So, Disney COULD build a fifth theme park. Maybe we’ll learn more about this come August.

Is Disneyland Expanding?

Moving over to California, we got a lot of news on the new Avatar-themed land, as well as the two new Marvel rides coming to Disney California Adventure, including Avengers Infinity Defense and Iron Man Stark Flight Lab.

However, we weren’t given much information on DisneylandForward, the massive expansion that was approved for the Disneyland Resort. It basically allows Disney to build beyond the borders of its current parks. Hopefully, we get more information on that this August.

Closing Dates at Disney World

With all the changes coming to Disney World, that means we’re getting lots of closures. Two beloved rides at Disney World are going to undergo a retheme, but Disney has allowed them to stay open throughout 2025; those rides are Dinosaur and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Although we’ll get to experience them for the remainder of the year, it would be nice to know when they’ll be closing.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Dinosaur will be transforming into a new Indiana Jones experience as a part of the transformation from DinoLand U.S.A to Puebla Esperanza. As for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, that coaster will be taken over by the Muppets, as they relocate from Muppets Courtyard to Sunset Blvd. Both rides are confirmed to be closing in 2026. Maybe at the D23 event, we’ll learn the exact closing dates for these attractions.

What Are The Stories behind the Encanto and Indiana Jones Rides?

We’re so excited for the Topical Americas transformation over at Animal Kingdom. It’s going to include three rides, including a carousel, Disney’s first-ever Encanto-themed ride, and a new Indiana Jones ride. We’re dying to hear what the stories for each ride are going to be. At D23, it was discussed that for Encanto, you would get to go through everyone’s rooms in the Casita. Disney also mentioned that the Indiana Jones ride will be a completely unique and new story. Consider us SAT for the news.

Um…Where’s The Villains Land News?

OK, guess we’re going to have to bring up the elephant in the room. Disney, why are you holding back the details for Villains Land — WE’RE DYING OVER HERE! Since D23, Villains Land has been arguably the most anticipated project coming to Disney World. We’ve gotten a lot of updates on Monsters Inc. Land, Cars Land, Tropical Americas, but NOTHING on Villains Land.

We just want something small, just a taste! What kinds of evil villains will be there? What are the rides going to be like? What’s the story? ANYTHING! We have our fingers crossed that Destination D23 will finally deliver us all some news on the highly anticipated land.

Is Disneyland’s Tomorrowland Going to Change?

Despite all the talks over the years on refreshing updates at Disneyland’s Tomorrowland, we still haven’t gotten anything. No mention of TRON, PeopleMover, or anything. Will that be brought up? Only time will tell!

Is The Wonders Of Life Pavilion Dead at EPCOT?

We still haven’t heard anything about the abandoned announcement for EPCOT’s Play! Pavilion. Every day, it’s looking more and more like the Wonders of Life Pavilion will remain empty for who knows how long.

What Will the All-New Space Mountain Look Like in Tokyo?

We’re leaving the U.S. to talk about Tokyo Disneyland’s upcoming Space Mountain attraction. Disney is fully reimagining Space Mountain in Tokyo; it’s not a refurbishment. The ride will feature an all-new exterior and ride experience, and it’s set to debut in 2027. Hopefully, we’ll get more details on this all-new take on Space Mountain!

More News on Abu Dhabi?

Disney recently announced MASSIVE news that they will be building a seventh theme park in Abu Dhabi. They released some information on the new park, but not a lot. There’s so much that will go into a project of this magnitude, and we’re hoping we get lots of details at Destination D23!
