Disney recently announced when the first round of closures will happen in DinoLand, U.S.A. in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and now they have filed a new permit for the construction!

DinoLand, U.S.A. is being rethemed to a Tropical Americas themed land, and Disney’s newest permit is hefty and a key step for this rethemed land.
Disney just filed a key permit for construction on the new Tropical Americas-themed land coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This rethemed land will be called Pueblo Esperanza and it will be replacing DinoLand, U.S.A.

The retheme is being referred to as Project Ro and will include the re-theming of 12.87 acres of land in Animal Kingdom that will become Pueblo Esperanza. This most recent permit includes plans for utility and drainage modification, pavement reconstruction, grading operations, and new buildings.

The permit includes pages and pages of information, with numerous plans included. Within the permit, Disney has filed Fire Department specifications and requirements, site demolition plans, utility demolition plans, location plans including proposed locations of concrete and asphalt, civil details, grading key plans, erosion control plans, and more. This is a hefty package of documents, and it is a key step towards the construction of this rethemed area.

Disney has already announced that the first round of closures in DinoLand, U.S.A. will begin on January 13th, 2025. This first stage of closures will include the TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures.

DINOSAUR, The Boneyard, Restaurantosaurus, Dino-Bite Snacks, and Trilo-Bites will all remain open. Disney has not announced a closing date for these attractions and dining locations.

Pueblo Esperanza will feature three attractions, including the first-ever Encanto ride, an Indiana Jones themed ride, and a carousel. It will also be home to one of the largest quick service restaurants in Disney World and additional shopping locations. The entire land is expected to open in 2027.

Though we are sad to see DinoLand, U.S.A. be demolished, we are excited to see what Pueblo Esperanza has in store for us. Even with the first closures in DinoLand beginning in January 2025, there is still so much to do in Animal Kingdom. Check out our video on how to have a perfect day in Animal Kingdom:
