UPDATE: Hurricane Meal Kits have now been removed from several Disney World restaurant menus that they had previously appeared on. We will be keeping an eye out for more updates so stay tuned!
It’s hurricane season in Disney World and we’ve been keeping track of the first major storm of the year, Tropical Storm Elsa.

Most recently, Elsa was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm, but that can still pose a threat to your days in the parks with heavy rains and winds. And, even as Orlando moves closer to being outside of the “cone of uncertainty,” Disney is preparing for potential impacts by offering a new dining option at select resorts.
Today, we noticed that many Disney World hotel Quick Service restaurants have added new meal kit options to their menus. And, over at Disney’s Pop Century Resort’s Everything POP Shopping & Dining, they’ve even labeled them “Hurricane Meal Kits.”

But, even those that don’t list them as hurricane-specific (like Capt. Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort) are offering the same options including breakfast and lunch meal kits for adults and kids, plus options for guests who are vegetarian or have a gluten or wheat allergy. And, they’re all priced at $10 or below.

However, when we stopped into Capt. Cook’s to order one for ourselves, we noticed that the meal kits were not available through Mobile Ordering. And, when we asked a Cast Member, they informed us that the meals are not currently available but told us to check back later. So, it looks like you can’t order these new menu items just yet.

If the meal kits do end up becoming available at the resorts, they are great to grab and store in your room before the storm is predicted to be closest to Orlando (which is currently Wednesday morning).
All Disney World Resort rooms come with an in-room refrigerator or a small beverage cooler and, if you happen to find that you don’t have one, you can call housekeeping when you arrive and request to have one placed in your room.

So, besides meals, should you be preparing for anything else if you’re visiting the parks this week? Well, if the storm strengthens again and becomes big enough to put the safety of guests and cast members at risk, Disney will close the parks and have guests shelter-in-place at their resorts (which those meal kits will come in handy for).

When it comes to spending your day in the parks, some outdoor rides may close if the winds or rain are strong enough to pose a risk to guests, but the parks may still remain open with indoor attractions and restaurants available for guests.

And, if you’re not in Disney World just yet, keep in mind that according to Disney World’s Hurricane Cancellation Policy, “If a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area—or for your place of residence—within 7 days of your scheduled arrival date, you may call in advance to reschedule or cancel your Walt Disney Travel Company Disney Resort hotel packages and most room only reservations (booked directly with Disney) without any cancellation or change fees imposed by Disney.” Currently, Elsa is not classified as a hurricane, but that could always change so keep an eye on the weather before you pack up your bags to travel.

We’ll continue to keep you updated with the latest Hurricane Elsa news and information on what to expect at Disney World this week so stay tuned!
