Hurricane season is in full swing in Florida, and we’ve been keeping our eye on Elsa’s impact on your vacation.
Now that Elsa has been downgraded from a potential hurricane to a tropical storm, here’s what you need to know!
As we’ve stayed up to date with Fox 35 Orlando and Click Orlando‘s reports, we’ve learned that South Florida will most likely begin to experience the tropical storm on Monday. The weather may pick up on Tuesday and Wednesday with “locally damaging storms,” tornadoes, and severe weather as Elsa passes through Florida.
That means that heavy rain and winds could occur, but most of Central Florida’s gusts will be below 40 miles per hour. A few stronger pockets of wind could come with thunderstorms around Elsa’s outer bands in areas near the west coast of Florida.
The tropical storm is currently moving through the Caribbean, on the way to Cuba and Jamaica. However, then it is expected to turn towards the northwest before it arrives in the Florida Keys late on Monday. Elsa’s projected to make landfall on Wednesday morning in Florida with slight chances of restrengthening.
A tropical storm warning has been issued at the Florida Keys from Craig Key westward to the Dry Tortugas. And, a tropical storm watch is at the Florida Keys from east of Craig Key to Ocean Reef, Florida Bay, and the southwest coast of Florida from Flamingo to Bonita Beach.
Governor Ron DeSantis has also issued a State of Emergency in multiple Florida counties before Elsa arrives, including Charlotte, Citrus, Collier, Desoto, Hardy, Hernando Hillsborough, Lee, Levy, Manatee, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota counties. This does not include where Disney World is located as of now.
We’ll keep you updated on everything you need to know about Tropical Storm Elsa moving forward.
