I Never Thought I Would Try This on the Disney World Skyliner, But It Made My Day 10x Better

I have been using Disney World transportation for years, and I have never thought to do this one thing to make seeing Disney resorts even more fun!

Skyliner Station at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

The Disney Skyliner might just be one of the most magical ways to get around Disney World. There’s something about gliding high above the property, catching views of EPCOT’s World Showcase, lagoons, and even peeking into Hollywood Studios before you arrive. It’s part transportation, part attraction, and if you’ve ever found yourself at Disney wondering how to make a non-park day a little more exciting, I’ve got the perfect idea: Skyliner Roulette.

Skyliner Roulette started as a spur-of-the-moment game on a recent trip when we wanted to do something new without setting foot in a park. The concept is simple: hop on the Skyliner and let it decide your day! You start at one of the Skyliner stations and travel to different resorts along the route. The twist? What you do at each stop depends on the color or character of your Skyliner cabin! Think of it like a Disney-themed scavenger hunt that takes you across the property.

Our first Skyliner car was teal, which meant that when we landed at Disney’s Riviera Resort, we had to find something teal. So, we headed straight into La Boutique, the resort’s elegant little gift shop, and started hunting. Sure enough, we spotted the perfect teal shirt on display! We didn’t buy it (though we were tempted), but that’s the fun of Skyliner Roulette; it’s not about spending money, it’s about exploring places you might otherwise overlook.

AllEars Tip: While you’re visiting the Riviera, you can grab a coffee from one of our favorite spots, Le Petit Café, and admire the stunning mosaics inspired by Tangled and Peter Pan.

From there, we caught the next Skyliner to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort — the central hub of the entire Skyliner system. This resort is huge, with sandy beaches, hammocks, and a laid-back island vibe that makes you forget you’re still inside Disney World. We even took a short walk along the promenade just to soak in the atmosphere before boarding our next ride.

AllEars Tip: If you are looking to grab something to eat here, don’t forget about this hidden gem, Sebastian’s Bistro. They have bread pudding and a great round of options!

Next up was Disney’s Pop Century Resort, which celebrates pop culture through the decades, and it’s impossible not to smile when you’re surrounded by giant yo-yos, Rubik’s cubes, and bowling pins. If your Skyliner car featured Goofy, your challenge will be to find something Goofy-themed. We love that this game can be played solo or as a big group to race each other!

AllEars Tip: Try the tie-dye cheesecake if you haven’t already, because it is exactly what you need!

Our final stop was just across Hourglass Lake at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. This one’s a must-visit even if you’re not staying there. The massive themed areas for The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Finding Nemo, and Cars are incredibly detailed and fun to explore.

AllEars Tip: Head inside the lobby of this resort and find the lighting fixture of all the character drawings. If you find Ursula, you can see that it is actually signed by Pat Carroll, the voice of Ursula!

By the end of the day, what started as a simple “let’s see where the Skyliner takes us” turned into one of the most unexpectedly fun Disney days we’ve had in ages. Skyliner Roulette is perfect for families, friend groups, or even solo Disney-goers looking to mix things up. For more Disney tips, be sure to follow us at AllEars.net.

  1. I recommend requesting an “unwrapped” or clear car from the cast member who seats you. Most are happy to oblige and it usually only means waiting for a couple of cars to pass by but the view is phenomenal and entirely worth a few seconds extra wait.

  5. We’d love Skyliner roulette! As Floridians, we’ve been to the property plenty of times, and we’re always looking for a change-up in how we view the familiar. One time, we took a “hidden Mickey” book with us and looked for every single one listed for the Magic Kingdom. Found ’em, too! We still talk about how fun that made our visit.
