WARNING: Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Looks Totally Different Now

Construction continues at Walt Disney World’s flagship resort.

The Grand Floridian Staircase

For the last several months, The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa has been undergoing a massive refurbishment project, which will include infrastructure improvements, new decorative touches, and — most exciting to me, who has been a Monorail Loop bar crawler for years — a new bar themed after the massive birdcage that sat in the lobby for decades. We recently took a visit to the resort to take a look at the progress on this work.

Let’s begin with the work on arguably the biggest single element of this refurbishment: the lobby bar. There was a lot of activity in the area, with an ample amount of construction workers as well as Cast Members milling about.

Work on the lobby bar continues

Work is ongoing, with the frame of the bar and the birdcage structure coming together nicely.

Look at the detailing

Elsewhere in the lobby, the staircase has seen some TLC, including the addition of a MASSIVE mural depicting the hotel in all its turn-of-the-century Florida coast resort glory.

The scale of this mural is huge

We really love all the details here.

Fantastic

Work is also happening in other areas around the lobby, including near the front desk, the Garden View Tea Room, and the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Work on the lobby is expected to continue through the rest of 2025, which is why the hotel will not be displaying a gingerbread house during this year’s Holiday Season.

Since its opening in 1988, the Grand Floridian has been Disney World’s flagship — and most expensive– resort. Stay tuned to AllEars for further updates on the hotel’s latest refurbishment.
