REVIEW: There Are 3 NEW Reasons To Eat at This Disney World Hotel Restaurant

Planning a trip to Disney World and not sure where you should eat while you’re there? Luckily, you’ve come to the right place!

Italian Hoagie from El Mercado del Coronado

Here at AllEars, we know all the ins and outs of Disney World restaurants — including where you should eat, and where you should skip. We recently stopped by El Mercado del Coronado at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort to try some NEW menu items and are bringing you our FULL review!

El Mercado del Coronado is a quick-service restaurant located at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, and they just rolled out some new menu items! Of course, we had to stop by to check some of them out — and boy, are we glad we did. I write Disney food reviews for a living and I’m ready to get in my car and start driving!

El Mercado del Coronado

First up, we tried the new Au Jus Melt for $19. This is made with thinly sliced roast beef and Swiss cheese on a toasted French baguette, served with beef au jus and choice of side.

We were big fans of this sandwich! There was PLENTY of meat and it was really tender and moist — it wasn’t dry at all. This was a really decent French dip, and we’ve had lots in our day. The bread was toasted really nicely with a nice, crunchy crust on the outside while still being soft on the inside.

Au Jus Melt

The cheese melted on here was nice, but by the time we got done taking photos and got around to eating it, it wasn’t quite as melty as it could have been — so definitely eat this one quickly. Overall, it’s a savory, cheesy, decent portion size here, and then the au jus on the side adds a nice saltiness to the mix. Our biggest qualm is that it’s pretty pricey for what you get!

Next, we grabbed the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich, which you can get for $16. Crispy fried chicken breast is topped with shredded iceberg lettuce, house-made hot honey sauce, zesty dill aioli, and crunchy pickles — all stacked on a toasted Kaiser roll.

There was a decent amount of bun here, but the Kaiser roll was quite nice. It’s fluffy, and it’s very much kind of white bread-esque, which paired well with the rest of the sandwich. There is a decent amount of lettuce and a lot of pickles on this, and the pickles have a really great crunch. The chicken is pounded very thin, and the breading sort of slid right off the chicken, which made it a little messy.

Taste-wise, though, this was HOT, especially by Disney standards. We didn’t get too much sweetness — it’s got that kind of buffalo taste to it. And then you get a little bit of the honey; the sweetness comes in at the beginning, but towards the end you’re left with heat.

The Italian Hoagie was another new option for $14. This was made with layers of sliced pepperoni, salami, and smoked ham with melted provolone cheese, topped with peppery arugula, house-made pesto, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze — all served on savory onion and caper focaccia.

So this is served on focaccia bread, which doesn’t scream hoagie to us, but we love focaccia bread, so we’re definitely not complaining. The bread wasn’t quite as fluffy as we were expecting —  it was dense and dry around the edges, like the sandwich was not made super fresh.

The arugula on here is a little bit wilted, but overall, the meats are pretty good. They’re very thinly sliced. So it’s not a huge massive portion of meat, but there’s a good amount of salt, some meatiness. The pesto really blends well with the flavors on here, and all the flavors work really well together. Overall, this is definitely something we would buy, and then we’d go put it in our hotel room fridge to eat later.

While we wouldn’t go out of our way to get these eats again, El Mercado del Coronado is a solid option for folks visiting or staying at Coronado Springs. There’s something for just about everyone here, and the quick service and ample seating mean you’ve got plenty of options and space.

In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Disney news and more!
