In recent years, the cruise industry has seen a massive increase in demand, and cruise lines including Disney are greatly expanding their fleets over the next decade.
The Disney Treasure!
Many of those passengers are either first-time cruisers or those returning to the seas after years or sometimes decades, and that means that many of them may not be familiar with some of the more stringent policies they need to know before sailing on the Disney Cruise Line. If you find yourself in this boat – – no, we couldn’t resist – – don’t fret, we’ve got you covered.
Baggage Limit
So, let’s start with your packing. If you’re flying to your cruise’s departure city, it may be tempting to overpack and bring as many outfits and personal effects as possible. However, there is an official limit. According to the guidelines on the official Disney Cruise Line website, “Each Guest may bring aboard the ship a reasonable amount of clothing and personal effects without charge, not to exceed 2 bags per person.”

Alcohol Limits
Speaking of limits, there is a very strict limit on how much alcohol guests over the age of 21 can bring on board. Once again citing Disney’s official regulations, “Each Guest 21 years and older may bring two bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750ml) or six beers (no larger than 12oz) at the beginning of the voyage and at each port-of-call. All wine/champagne and beer brought onboard must be hand-carried through the security process. Any alcohol packed in checked luggage will be removed and not returned, and no compensation will be offered.”
The Disney Cruise Line also has strict policies regarding food. Homemade, pre-cooked, or perishable items, as well as snacks in open containers, are not permitted. In addition, guests are not allowed to bring coolers aboard (with exceptions for specialized medications, baby food, or “items related to dietary constraints.”) Nonperishable snack foods in original factory-sealed packaging are allowed.
You can get snacks onboard.
Banned Items
Beyond coolers, foods, and limits on alcohol, there are a litany of other items that aren’t allowed on Disney Cruise ships. These include:
Weapons & Firearms
Marijuana & Illicit Drugs
Blenders
Bottle Sterilizers and Warmers
Coffee Makers
Diffusers
Electric Blankets
Electric Irons and Steamers
Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB)
Extension Cords, Power Strips, Multi-Plugs and Purge Protectors
Ham Radios
Heating Elements
Heating Pads
Hookah Pipes
Hot Plates
Metal Detectors
Microwave Ovens
Power Tools, Hand Tools and Toolboxes
Remote-Controlled Airplanes, Drones, Toy Vehicles, Star Wars Droids
Rice Cookers
Toasters and Toaster Ovens
Seasonal and/or Strands of Celebratory Lightbulbs
Streaming Devices (Amazon Fire Stick, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Roku, etc.)
While most places on the Disney Cruise allow “casual attire, such as shorts and T-shirts… with the exception of swimwear and tank tops”, some of the adult-exclusive restaurants on the ships are “elegant dining experiences” where guests are “requested to dress in a manner consistent with the restaurant’s atmosphere. Formal or semi-formal attire is recommended. Also permitted is dress-casual attire with a polished look, such as dress pants, jeans in good condition, collared shirts, dressy tops and lifestyle shoes. For brunch at Palo and Palo Steakhouse, dress shorts are acceptable.”

Animals
Finally, we have animals. Unfortunately, you’ll need to leave your beloved family pet at home for your Disney Cruise. Service Animals are an exception, HOWEVER Disney has to be notified at least 72 hours prior to sailing if a service animal is to be brought on board the ship.
These are just some of the policies that are necessary to know about before taking a Disney Cruise. Stay tuned to AllEars for more what you need to know before your voyage.
Yes, I took my family on the Disney Fantasy several years ago. We loved I so much I booked two more family cruises which were cancelled because of Covid. We are now booked for September of 2025. My grandchildren are now adults and they are so excited to be doing this again. As we all are.
My husband and I took our grandaughter on a Disney Cruise. It was the absolutely the worst vacation in my life. My husband was ill for at least 3 days at the beginning of the cruise. We had spent the week prior at Disney World and he must have gotten sick. I was so bored all week. My grandaughter loved it. We had to make her meet us for dinner or I don’t think we would have ever seen her. We are attempting another cruise this June, hopefully the Treasure is an improvement.
It was a wonderful cruise when we went in between 2001-2004.
