Disney FINALLY Announces What Is Happening With the Star Wars Hotel

It is official! Disney has finally announced the fate of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser!

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

If you were hoping that Disney would be announcing that the Starcruiser would be opening again, we have some bad news. The abandoned Star Wars hotel is now being converted into offices for Walt Disney Imagineering.

According to The Wrap, “Walt Disney Imagineering will be using the building as a hub for several expansion projects coming to Disney World.” The Wrap also said that they had one source tell them that  “several playtests were conducted in that part of the old Starcruiser building, with Cast Members filling in for paying guests. But the tests would be for a potential dining experience in the theme park, not in the Starcruiser building itself.”

The hotel opened on March 1st, 2022, and just about a year later, it took its last voyage in September of 2023. It has since sat abandoned, and Disney fans hoped that the hotel could be brought back in some form of day excursions or that Disney would adjust the prices to be a bit more budget-friendly.

After its closure, Disney Parks and Experiences chairperson Josh D’Amaro chalked that the Star Wars hotel’s main fault was due to the high ticket price per voyage but said that it was still a learning opportunity for the company.

It is a shame that this building will not be accessible to guests. Still, there are a ton of new and exciting projects on the horizon for Disney World, like the Tropical Americas-themed expansion in Animal Kingdom as well as the Monsters, Inc. Land in Hollywood Studios that Imagineers will be able to work on in the building that was once the Starcruiser.

  1. This is a stupid waste of money even using it for offices, it’s a hotel . Do something better Disney, it could still be used as a Star Wars themed hotel and just cut back on the total immersion and lower the prices, or do as the other person before me suggested about adding another day and some other options or events at other spots , maybe fast passes for Star Tours and Rise of the Resistance , access to Ogas and special fireworks seating at one of the parks etc.

  2. I hope they leave the flight deck and some of the gaming rooms for the imagineers to enjoy during their breaks. Then at a later date it would be easy to convert it back to a guest experience if they wanted to.

  3. What a waste of money. Disney -what are you doing? They could have even just made it into a resort that people could stay at like their other resorts.

  4. Idiots. It was such a great opportunity and an easy fix.

    1) Increase to 3 mights for about the same cost
    a) reduces stress on cast and gives maint one day a week to reset / repair
    b) reduce stress on the guests from the non stop gaming by giving them a ‘day off’ to enjoy GE or Springs or whatever they want to do
    c) on that same day off have an exclusive evening event / dinner in GE followed by the fireworks

    2) Market it through DCL since it would price about the same as a 3 night cruise.

    1. It was a wonderful experience, but would never do it again.
      1not much to do.
      2. expensive
      3. you were just ‘stuck’ there. no pool no outside.
      4. only could eat when they said.
      5. rooms and building were very cool though.

    2. Adding an extra night would not be done at the same cost. It would only add to the cost.

The article does say that, while empty, the Starcruiser was testing a theater show, so maybe we will finally get the dinner show inside Galaxy’s Edge we were promised 10 years ago in concept art.
