If you’ve ever shopped at a store like Zara or Uniqlo, you might be familiar with the fancy new technology that can automatically detect the items you’re buying at checkout and ring them up for you. Even Disney World gift shops have adopted a new self-checkout procedure to help you skip the lines! But what if we told you that even FOOD COURTS could use this technology? Well, it could be happening!
We stopped by Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort recently and noticed a BIG new project is being tested at End Zone Food Court. This could be a real game-changer if it sticks around!
According to a Cast Member, Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort is testing a new self-checkout system over a 30-day period. If the system works well, this could be rolled out to other resorts, too. Cast Members added that if this program struggles, though, it would likely disappear. So, we’re really witnessing a true experiment in real time!
Here’s how it works: you’ll grab your food from the food court as normal, load up your tray, and then take it to a self-checkout kiosk. From there, you will set your tray on this magical little platform, and the system will automatically detect your order. Make sure to separate your items on the tray so the system knows what’s what.
Now, here’s where things got interesting. We ordered two simple items: a banana and a cookie. The system is still learning, but it did not get our order quite right.
Luckily, a Cast Member could quickly correct the order for us. Keep a close eye on the screen, though — the artificial intelligence does not have a 100% success rate.
Once everything looks good, you can check out and pay! This part was easy.
And just like that…you’re done! If you happen to visit the food court early in the morning or during the dinner rush, this could be a great way to speed things up. But, like we said, the system is still learning, and we noticed a few other people needed a Cast Member to correct their order as well.
For now, the system isn’t perfect, but if it can learn quickly, it could be a major help in getting through long lines at the food courts. We’ll be interested to see how this develops.
Disney seems to be really leaning into new technology — we just hope it WORKS! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.

Why is it ever a good idea to get rid of people and replace with a soulless machine
