Disney Shares NEW Look Inside the Latest Restaurant Coming to the Polynesian Hotel

Disney is teasing their NEWEST restaurant!

This coming December, the Island Tower will open at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The new Disney Vacation Club expansion has been controversial thanks to its design aesthetic, however, there’s no denying that its existence is about to change one of Disney World’s original two hotels forever. Now, Disney has released some new details on an eatery coming to the new expansion.

When the Island Tower opens on December 17th, it will include the new Wailulu Bar & Grill. The name is a portmanteau of the Hawaiian words wai (meaning “water”) and lulu (meaning “calm”).

According to Disney, the Wailulu Grill  will feature “breathtaking” views of the Seven Seas Lagoon, and the space will be “adorned with dazzling Polynesian-inspired artwork—much of which was crafted by recycled materials and reclaimed fishing nets” and the “center of the dining room will showcase an abstract Polynesian Stick Chart, an ancient navigation tool used to traverse the seas.”

Concept art for the restaurant also shows a bar area that features views of Cinderella Castle and the Magic Kingdom.

As mentioned above, the new Island Tower has proven to be somewhat controversial amongst a subsection of Disney fans including many of our readers thanks to its design. While Disney claims that the design is based on early concept art for the Polynesian from the 1960s, many critics argue the end result looks like a “generic” hotel that breaks the intricate theming of the rest of the resort.

As of mid-November 2024, no menu information for Wailulu has been released. However, the new restaurant is confirmed to be opening with the rest of the Island Tower on December 17th. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on this new hotel expansion.
