The Rules About Lightsabers in Disney World

Isn’t the immersion at Disney World just incredible?

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios

And if you’re a Star Wars fan, there might not be a better place on the planet to live out your galactic dreams. You can come to Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios rocking your finest Jedi duds  with your lightsaber on your hip and nobody would think you were out of place. Speaking of lightsabers, if you’re thinking of bringing one from home into the parks, let’s have a quick chat so that you don’t get caught off guard by the rules!

So, you’ve got your own lightsaber ready, and you’re stoked to channel your inner Jedi (or Sith Lord) in the most magical place on Earth (Disney World), but before you ignite that blade and take on the First Order, there are a few lightsaber rules you need to know.

YES BREEDLOVE!

After all, while Disney World is all about letting you live out your Star Wars dreams, they’ve got safety and park etiquette guidelines in mind so that everyone has a magical day. That being said, here’s everything you need to know if you’re planning on bringing your lightsaber to Disney World!

Can You Bring a Lightsaber into Disney World?

The short answer is yes. You can absolutely bring your lightsaber into Disney World! In fact, Disney makes this a relatively lightsaber-friendly experience, especially at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios, where wielding your own lightsaber can add a serious touch of authenticity to your adventure.

Lightsabers at Disney World

According to planDisney, “there are rules about what you may bring into the Walt Disney World theme parks, but you’ll be very happy to know that if you would like to snag that selfie at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, lightsaber in hand, you are welcome to do so.”

Or you can pretend you have a lightsaber, just for the price of PhotoPass!

So, for those who’ve invested in that custom saber from Savi’s Workshop, or even if you brought one from home, you’re in the clear to bring it into the parks for all those epic photo ops!

Dos and Don’ts of Lightsaber Etiquette

Disney has a few unspoken “dos and don’ts” when it comes to lightsabers. These aren’t strict rules, but following them helps ensure that everyone around you stays safe and has a good time. Here’s what you should keep in mind:

  • Stow It Away on Rides: One of the most important things to know is that while you can bring your lightsaber into the parks, you’ll be asked to stow it safely while on any attractions. According to planDisney, “you’ll be asked to stow it away safely to enjoy any attractions.” So, if you’re planning to ride Rise of the Resistance, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, or any other thrill rides, be prepared to tuck that lightsaber away. A good tip is to just bring the hilt, so that way it’s a whole lot easier to pack away when needed.
  • Avoid Metal Blades or Spikes: Disney doesn’t allow anything that could be considered a “weapon,” and that includes any lightsaber mods with metal blades, sharp edges, or spikes on the hilt. Stick to the plastic, LED-blade versions, which are designed to be safe for everyone around you.

  • Watch the Swinging: As tempting as it might be to challenge a Stormtrooper or take on the First Order, Disney would prefer you leave the Jedi moves to the cast members. Swinging your lightsaber around could hurt others in the crowd, so keep it tame while you’re walking through the park. But don’t worry, you’ll find there are still plenty of photo-friendly spots to strike a pose without going full Jedi Knight.
  • Respect the Rules and Cast Members: Cast Members at Disney World are known for their friendliness, but they’re also there to keep things safe and orderly. So, if a Cast Member asks you to put your lightsaber away, we’d recommend following their instructions. And remember, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has lots of spaces that encourage lightsaber use and creativity, so there’s no need to go rogue.

The Best Spots to Wield Your Saber

Now, if you’re excited to show off that lightsaber, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is, of course, the place to do it. You’ll find incredible backdrops like the Millennium Falcon that are perfect for lightsaber photo ops. You can also catch Stormtrooper patrols and get a quick selfie with your saber out.

A few more people…

Overall, if you’ve got that saber and are ready for some Disney World magic, remember that you can bring it in, keep it safe, and be mindful of those around you. Whether you’re walking through Batuu like a boss or keeping it low-key on Main Street, your lightsaber is welcome (just respect the space and the people around you).
