There may be something big happening in Magic Kingdom soon!

Could the wildest ride in the wilderness be seeing some changes? We noticed something that could indicate that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad might be getting some updates.
We noticed that Disney filed a permit for work to be done at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad on June 14th, 2024. The permit has an expiration date of August 8th, 2025, which likely means it will be a longer project. Permits automatically expire a year after they are filed, unless otherwise specified, so the fact that this permit is for over a year could signal bigger changes.

The permit was filed for “General Construction” and lists Coastal Steel Inc. as the contractor for the work. When looking at Coastal Steel’s website it states that they are “a leader in steel erection.” One of their specialties is in ride systems, including roller coasters. However, they also work in facility maintenance.

A permit being filed could mean a lot of different things, and until Disney World confirms the work they are actually doing, we won’t know for sure. This permit is definitely exciting as it is for longer than a year and has a contractor that specializes in ride systems. At this point all we know is that there will be some sort of work done on the ride. It could be a super simple project, or something more complex.

We will be keeping our eyes and ears peeled for more information on what this could mean for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Stay tuned to AllEars for more Disney World news!
