Space Mountain in Disney World has been a staple attraction in Magic Kingdom since 1975.
Disney World’s Space Mountain has seen some theme changes since opening. For example, during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the ride gets enhanced with a holiday overlay. This overlay is not permanent and runs as normal during non-holiday party hours.
Even Disneyland’s Space Mountain has had different overlays such as “Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy” and “Hyperspace Mountain” but these themes never stick around for long.
Recently it was announced that Tokyo Disneyland’s Space Mountain will be closing and will be renovated. Could a similar fate happen to Space Mountain in Disney World?
Tokyo Disneyland has announced that Space Mountain will close temporarily on July 31st, 2024. Before it closes for refurbishment, there is a special celebration to commemorate the current version of Tokyo Disneyland’s Space Mountain. This celebration is called “Space Mountain: The Final Ignition!”
The celebration will run from April 19th, 2024 to July 31st, 2024. Disney says it will include different photo opportunities, along with food offerings and even exclusive merchandise.
As mentioned, Space Mountain: Final Ignition! will run for the last time on July 31st, 2024. The renovations are expected to be done by sometime in 2027. This is a lengthy refurbishment time, and we are curious to see the changes.
Disney announced that the ride will still have the original concept in mind but will have new effects and enhanced performance. It will allow guests to have a new ride experience and have new thrills.
With the changes happening over at Tokyo Disneyland, could we see Disney World’s Space Mountain change?
So far, no changes have been announced for Disney World’s Space Mountain, but it makes us wonder if these changes could be implemented in the future. With a brand new coaster right next door to Space Mountain, the attraction deserves some extra love.
While no changes are announced for Space Mountain in Disney World, we will continue to keep an eye out for any new updates on Tokyo Disneyland’s Space Mountain refurbishment.

Yes it will change for the Halloween overlay in the Magic Kingdom in Florida of Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy for the legacy of both versions of California and Hong Kong for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween since the infinite ride of Hyperspace Mountain in Hong Kong only the event of the Season of the Force of the Hyperspace Mountain in California, and after the Halloween overlay, they will put the holiday overlay during the Mickey’s Very Mery Christmas Party as well.
