There are many things to take into account like budget, location, and theming, but with over 20 hotels, there are choices for just about anyone. Each hotel is unique which is another reason we find ourselves spending so much time at them! But if you’re thinking of staying at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter, we’ve got some secrets to spill!
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort is a moderate level hotel and is split up into two sections — Riverside and French Quarter. The latter has Mardi Gras theming throughout, but the best secret at the resort that people often overlook is…
Live Music at Scat Cat’s Club Lounge
Scat Cat’s Club Lounge is a great hangout spot where you can grab a snack and a drink, but the best part is that there is live jazz music!Â
According to the Disney World website, live performances start at 7:30PM from Wednesdays through Sundays. There aren’t many experiences in Disney World like it.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, which is a deluxe resort, has live piano music in the lobby sometimes, so live music at a moderate resort like Port Orleans is a huge plus!
At Scat Cat’s Lounge, you’ll find specialty cocktails and some non-alcoholic options. For food, you can grab boozy beignets, Mardi Gras fritters, and the unique oyster beignet po’boy!
If you’re having a relaxing night at the hotel, we highly recommend checking it out. This is also our friendly reminder that you do NOT have to be staying at the resort to visit Scat Cat’s Club!
Surrey Bikes
We love this resort so much that we couldn’t just share ONE thing! We also wanted to highlight some other fun surprises you may not know you can do like surrey bikes!
The resort is so beautiful which sets the perfect scene for riding a surrey bike with your friends or family. This activity is available at a few other hotels, but there are great paths for bikes here.
Of course, this may not be the best activity for the sweltering heat during Florida’s summer, but people often overlook the bikes on a nice day.
Transportation!
Disney World has many forms of transportation from the Skyliner to the Monorail to the buses. But many forget that you can take a boat from Port Orleans to Disney Springs!
This can be a super convenient way to get to the shopping and dining district and is a huge perk of staying at the hotel. It can be easy to go wait in line for a bus since the buses take you to most places, but you can change it up by taking the boat, to Disney Springs anyway.
Also, unlike the Riverside part of the resort, there is only one bus stop. That way you don’t have to make multiple stops before getting off near your room. That’s because the resort is smaller, but it still has many amenities!
Mickey Beignets
It would not be a post about Port Orleans French Quarter if we didn’t mention Mickey beignets, right? In addition to the beignets at the lounge, you can grab Mickey beignets at Scat Cat’s Club Cafe all day long!
You can choose from a pack of three or six beignets or grab the Mickey beignet sundae — yum! The boozy beignets with your choice of Baileys Irish Cream, Kahlua, or RumChata are also available here as well as a variety of dipping sauces.
Mickey beignets are one of the best Mickey-shaped snacks in our opinion and sometimes they will feature seasonal flavors. These are a MUST if you visit the resort.

My son and his family and I were there this past summer. Every employee we came in contact with were fantastic. They helped us numerous times. I am now using a scooter and they would charge it for me at night We have stayed at many hotels in Disney, but as my youngest grandson says, (this is the best) Thanks for a wonderful visit!
French Quarter is a favorite of ours, bedsides what was already mentioned, it seems to be quieter too. we do love Riverside also and its connected so easy to walk or take the boat there too. we have also taken a horse carriage ride from riverside back to French Quarter after Seeing Bobs Wild show. he is a very funny act with singing and jokes. havent checked to see if hes still there.
