It’s Official: Virtual Queues Will Be Used for 2 Popular Rides During Holiday Parties in Disney World

It’s true. Some Disney World rides are so new and popular that one of the only ways to control crowd levels is to utilize the virtual queue system — where guests join a boarding group from their mobile device and do other things around the park until it’s their turn to ride.

TRON Lightcycle / Run

Currently, there are two rides in Disney World that require riders to join the line with a virtual queue system: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT and TRON: Lightcycle/Run in Magic Kingdom. In the past, though, attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT also used the virtual queue system to avoid extreme crowds around the attraction, but after the newness of the rides subsided, the rides switched over and used a standby queue. Soon, though, a virtual queue will return to one of these attractions for a limited time.

We are Halfway to the Holidays, so Disney is making all sorts of holiday-related announcements. Disney announced that Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will return to Magic Kingdom, and an all-new holiday party — Jollywood Nights — would debut at Hollywood Studios.

With these announcements, Disney informed us that virtual queues WOULD be available for both TRON: Lightcycle / Run and Rise of the Resistance. This is BIG news, because it means visitors won’t spend the entire evening waiting in line for either attraction since they are expected to be popular.

As long as your party ticket is linked to your My Disney Experience account, you should be able to join a virtual queue for these attractions during the events. If you need assistance, be sure to consult with a Cast Member!
