Few animated characters are as easily recognized and iconic as Mickey Mouse — even saying his name probably just got a song stuck in your head.

But, before Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse, he brought Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to life. And now, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company, a new Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short has premiered!
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is back in a new short just in time to celebrate the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company! Created by Walt Disney and legendary animator Ub Iwerks, Oswald walked so that Mickey could run — but Oswald has quite the cult following too!

The Lucky Rabbit was introduced in the 1927 short, Trolley Troubles, and 26 films were created by Walt and those on his team before losing creative control. Then, in 2006, Disney CEO Bob Iger (who is now CEO again) made a deal with NBC Universal to bring Oswald back to his original home.

The new short, called Oswald The Lucky Rabbit, was created by Disney Animation’s hand-drawn animation team and directed by Eric Goldberg. It was produced by Dorothy McKim, who shared, “On the eve of Disney’s 100th anniversary, it was such a joy to create the first new Oswald short from our studio since 1928.”

Mark Henn, Randy Haycock, and Eric Goldberg are the legends who hand-drew this short in its original style and brought Oswald back to life. Check it out below!
