PHOTOS: Disney World Brings Back Select Behind-the-Scenes Tours!

Ever wondered about all the cool stuff Disney does behind the scenes?

The Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom

Well, one way to enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the parks is going on a special tour and today, some of those tours returned to Disney World! While not all of Disney’s tours are worth the price, these are some real winners.

Today, Disney World brought back five of their iconic behind-the-scenes tours! Here are the tours that started back up today:

  • Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour
  • Caring for Giants
  • Wild Africa Trek
  • Up Close with Rhinos
  • Savor the Savanna

Most of these are at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, with four out of the five returning tours taking place at the park. Let’s dive in and take a look at each of them!

Animal Kingdom

First up is Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour! This 5-hour Magic Kingdom tour is one of the most popular events for a reason.  Besides learning the secret history behind classic rides and getting priority ride boarding, you also get to see the Cast Member Utilidors, the secret system of tunnels under the park.

Next up is the Wild Africa Trek, which gets you a behind-the-scenes look at Kilimanjaro Safari, with the opportunity to see the park’s giraffes, rhinos, hippos, and crocodiles up close and personal! A meal is also provided during this tour.

Giraffes!

If you only want to see the chubby unicorns of the park, you can go on the Up Close with Rhinos tour! This one is pretty self-explanatory, but you get up close and personal with the rhinos.

Savor the Savanna is another one of the offerings coming back today and is a bit on the simpler side! This event comes with a premium meal and views of Kilimanjaro Safari from a special venue inside the attraction.

Finally, there’s Caring for Giants, which we actually went on today! First, we checked in at the Animal Tours Kiosk near Kilimanjaro Safaris and got ready for the tour!

Checking in!

Caring for Giants is all about Animal Kingdom’s majestic elephants, which you get to see up close and personal from a special viewing area (it’s the same one Cast Members use to check in on the elephants during the day!).

What a cool spot!

It was such a beautiful, informative tour and we had a blast!

  1. I’m doing an 8am Keys to the Kingdom tour in about a week when Magic Kingdom normal opening time is 9a. Do you think the Monorail is normally operating early enough to get to the park in time?

    1. That sounds like so much fun, Caitlin! According to Disney’s website, the Monorail does not start running until 30 minutes before Magic Kingdom opens so that would be 8:30.
