Where Could We See Disney’s Newest Tech in the Parks?

Disney is a company that tends to be at the forefront of inventions when it comes to theme parks.

Rise of the Resistance

Walt Disney Imagineers are constantly inventing new technologies to use in the theme parks and a few upcoming inventions have us especially excited. But when and how will we see these in the theme parks?

Here’s where we could see Disney’s newest tech in the theme parks!

Baby Groot Robot

Walt Disney Imagineering has been working on an untethered and fully mobile robot that looks just like Baby Groot from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. They’ve mentioned that there are no impending plans to include robo-Groot in the theme parks. But what could he be for?

Robo Groot could potentially be used for a premiere of a future Guardians movie, but we might also see him pop up at Avengers Campus or EPCOT near the respective Guardians of the Galaxy rides one day! The little guy can interact with his surroundings so this could be a unique meet and greet experience!

Monorail Hologram

Disney Imagineering has filed a patent for a hologram on top of the monorail. Wow! This invention hasn’t been announced publicly at all, but the filings show projections of the castle and more riding by atop the monorail.

So, yes! If Disney decided to go through with it, we could see holograms cruising by on the monorail as we head towards Disney World. Would you be convinced to go catch Happily Ever After if you saw a projected ad?

Drone Shows

We spotted another Disney patent for a new type of drone show! The patent appears to show a water-based nighttime show featuring Te Fiti from Moana. The drones fly around and create effects with Te Fiti’s movements and wind from their propellers.

Plus we spotted a patent for a drone-powered pirate ship that could fly through the air — just like in Peter Pan! Either of these effects could be used in a future nighttime show in one of the Disney parks around the world.

Walk Around Yeti

During Destination D23 this year, Imagineers showed off their new method for larger-than-life meet and greets. With suits that help performers reach a new scale through leg and arm apparatuses, we could be meeting some huge Disney characters in the future.

How cool is this?!

One of the model suits appears to have furry white feet while the other has huge purple hands. Could we see a walk-around Yeti in Disney’s Animal Kingdom or perhaps a real-life Thanos in Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure?

Spaceship Car

Finally, we spotted a patent to help make the movements of a real vehicle into a simulation attraction. Hint: the example for this one used a lot of Star Wars language and talked about turning a car into a spaceship of some kind.

Hmm…what could that mean? Well, with Galactic Starcruiser opening next year, we wonder if the method for transporting guests to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the included park day could mean a trip in a car-turned-spaceship of this design. We’ll have to see!
