5 Ways Disneyland is Winning the Theme Park Game

The age-old dispute between Disney World and Disneyland has been a part of many a fan’s conversations for the past five decades! While both resort destinations have their pros and cons, there are a few things we’ve noticed recently that totally put Disneyland in the top spot!

Disneyland

Today, we’re going to review FIVE of the ways Disneyland is totally winning at the theme park game.

Some of the rides are just better!

Disneyland and Disney World have a lot of overlapping rides that you can enjoy on both coasts. If you’re familiar with each version of the ride, then you may find yourself preferring the Disneyland versions time and time again! Notable standouts that reign supreme in Disneyland are it’s a small world, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Space Mountain.

Sorry Disney World, you just can’t compete with TWO drops over in Disneyland!

Disneyland has had way better After Hour events in 2021

Both Disney World and Disneyland brought back after-hour events in 2021 to celebrate both Halloween as well as the holiday season. While Disney World’s After Hours Boo Bash was a bit disappointing, Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash blew us out of the water!

Remember when Disneyland showed everyone up by inviting Agatha to Oogie Boogie Bash?

Likewise, Disney Very Merriest After Hours in Magic Kingdom was a much-needed improvement (albeit with a higher price tag), but we were still impressed by Merriest Nites over in Disneyland! Seriously, they brought the Muppets!

Kermit!

Disneyland usually has more unique character meet and greet experiences.

One of the ways Disneyland’s After Hour events truly stood out were the superb character interactions available to guests at both Oogie Boogie Bash and Merriest Nites. In fact, character interactions are something Disneyland has always sort of had an advantage over Disney World, with rare characters making more frequent appearances throughout the year pre-closure.

Everything is within walking distance!

Perhaps the biggest perk Disneyland has that shows it’s consistently winning the theme park game is that everything (yes, virtually everything) is within walking distance. In fact, it shouldn’t take you more than fifteen to twenty minutes to get to just about anywhere you want to go on Disneyland property. The two park entrances are mere steps from each other, with Downtown Disney and the three resort hotels right next door! No need to wait for buses to take you from park to park.

Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are steps apart from each other!

Disneyland has incredible snacks.

Finally, we wanted to give a special shout out to the awesome snacks you can find in Disneyland. The Happiest Place on Earth truly knows what it’s doing, especially when comparing Disneyland Park to Magic Kingdom. Disneyland’s churros are on another level, and we’ve noticed over the years that more specialty items are available on a regular basis (perhaps to keep the locals appeased!).

If you’re debating whether or not to make the trip to Disneyland in 2022, we totally suggest you read up on our other posts detailing the many ways the Happiest Place on Earth is in many ways superior to its east coast counterpart! Disney World definitely has a larger square foot with more parks, rides, restaurants, resorts, etc., but there’s something to Disneyland that just can’t be beat!

  1. Hoping to see some videos on whether or not to use genie in Disneyland. Just looking at the app the overall genie experience seems very different than Disneyworld!
Planning a possible Disneyland trip in May, which will be a big return after my first trip in 1970!? Could really use your help.

  2. Go over to Knotts Berry Farm and you will find out that they are the REAL winner. They have REAL meet and greets where you can hug the characters and get autographs. They have all of their entertainment back and have added more. They have even better snacks and meals, the meals are even on their dining plans. Oh and they have dining plans.
