6 Questions You’ve Always Wanted to Know About Disney World (But Were Too Afraid to Ask)

Disney World has been entertaining families and guests of all ages for fifty years — that’s a long time for us to sit and ponder over just how Disney does it all day in and day out!

Welcome to Disney World!

There may be some burning questions you have, whether it relates to how Disney World does it all, or simply how to plan for your next vacation. We have a few questions today to discuss that you may have never asked, or perhaps you just never dared to ask!

Is it worth it to stay on Disney World property?

When planning a Disney World vacation, one of the first questions a guest needs to answer is where they will choose to stay! For many, this is an easy decision, and they are strongly opposed to staying on or off property. For others, they may wonder if it’s truly worth it and need to weigh the pros and cons.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa

Staying on Disney World property comes at a higher price than what you would pay off property, but there are several perks that come with the cost. For starters, you are just about as close as you can be to the theme parks — if you need a quick getaway to rest in your hotel room, nothing beats being minutes away!

Disney World is also bringing back extended theme park hours for their on-property guests, both in the morning via Early Theme Park Entry for all Disney World hotel guests, as well as Extended Evening Hours for those staying at Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Resorts.

Stormalong Bay

So, it really depends on what your family’s preferences are in deciding whether or not it’s worth it to stay on Disney World property. We’ve researched this topic a lot in recent years, so be sure to read up on all of the articles we’ve written so you can make an informed decision!

Will there ever be a 5th theme park?

Perhaps the one singular question every Disney World fan wants to know the answer to is if (or when) we’ll ever see a fifth theme park added to Florida. It has been over 20 years since a new theme park has opened in Disney World (Disney’s Animal Kingdom opened in April of 1998), and while there have been rumors swirling for years regarding a fifth park, we have yet to hear anything straight from Disney regarding this topic!

Welcome to Disney World!

Wouldn’t it be cool to see an entire theme park added to Disney World? Until that happens, we’re seeing plenty of new lands and attractions being added to the existing parks, like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Pandora – The World of Avatar in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

How big is Disney World?

If you aren’t familiar with the sheer size of Disney World, then you may be surprised to hear just how big it actually is. At over 42 square miles, Disney World is roughly the same size as San Fransisco, or about twice as big as Manhattan!

In fact, Disney World is so big, it needs its own governing jurisdiction to run it on a day-to-day basis. Reedy Creek Improvement District was established in 1967 as construction began to build Disney World, and it runs the resort’s power and water, sewage, wildlife management, and more.

Why can’t I take the Monorail to Animal Kingdom?

The Monorail is an iconic mode of transportation in Disney World, but you may be surprised to hear how few stops it actually has. You can take the Monorail to Magic Kingdom or EPCOT, but you can only access the Monorail from the Transportation and Ticket Center, as well as the three Monorail resorts: Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

The Monorail

Disney World offers many complimentary transportation systems, but they all don’t stop at every park or resort. In fact, the only complimentary system that services every resort and every park are the buses.

A not-so-mini Minnie bus!

If you want to hop on the new Disney Skyliner, you’ll have to head to either EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios. From there, you can travel to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, or Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.

Disney also has a variety of boat transportation options, depending on if you’re traveling to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney Springs.

Are adults allowed to order off of the kids menu?

Dining at Disney World is a pricey endeavor; in fact, it can quickly add up to being one of the most expensive line items in your vacation budget! To save a few bucks on your next meal at Disney, we have a few quick tips to share with you!
