Why You’ll Have to Ride Disney Cruise Line’s First Attraction at Sea More Than Once!

Disney Cruise Line’s new ship — the Disney Wish — is going to feature a whole bunch of new things including new restaurants, new entertainment spaces, and more.

But, the Wish will also feature Disney’s FIRST attraction at sea — the AquaMouse! We’ve already shared some details about this ride but now Disney has revealed a big reason why you’ll want to ride it over and over again.

When Disney first announced the AquaMouse, it shared that the story guests would get to experience on this attraction at sea would be called Scuba Scramble. In this story, Mickey & Minnie’s excursion company, Port Misadventures, want to take you on an excursion to Mermaid Lagoon!

Of course, along the way the group gets into a bit of trouble, some hilarious antics ensue, and guests get SOAKED with a variety of water sprayers.

But, it turns out Scuba Scramble won’t be the only story guests will get to experience on the AquaMouse! Today, Disney officially shared that guests will also get the chance to experience an entirely different story on the AquaMouse depending on when they ride. The other story is called Swiss Meltdown!

Swiss Meltdown is inspired by the Yodelberg Mickey Mouse short. During this story, Mickey and Minnie’s Port Misadventures excursion company is looking to take you on an excursion where you’ll slide down the Matterhorn. But, as luck would have it, a big, bright sun comes out that day and starts to melt the snow around the mountain. Now, you’ve got to race to the top to get in that ski adventure before all the snow melts away!

The short is full of all kinds of easter eggs and fun references to Disney characters, Disney Cruise Line, and the Disney Parks. You’ll see a yeti during the short, get a glimpse at some sky buckets, and more, all while going on a “frantic dash to the mountaintop while trying to avoid obstacles like avalanches, leaky rock walls and waterfalls — oh, boy!”

And be sure to listen to the music played during Swiss Meltdown. Christopher Willis worked on adapting his musical score from the Yodelberg short for this part of the attraction.

How will you know what story you’ll get to see? One Imagineer has indicated that Disney may show 1 short on 1 day, and then on another day the other short will play, so that guests have a chance to experience both. Of course, that could change so we’ll be on the lookout for any updates.

Recently, Disney shared a look at the posters for each of the stories that will play in this attraction.

According to Disney, the posters will be “showcased in the attraction queue to let our guests know which adventure is being featured each day of their voyage.”

We actually got the chance to go to a media preview event recently about the Disney Wish and we got to see this short in full, and we got to learn more details about the AquaMouse overall and Scuba Scramble too.

In terms of the Scuba Scramble story, it looks like Mickey and Minnie follow a sign to head to Mermaid Lagoon, but when another part of the sign drops, it’s revealed that they actually went into a place where danger awaits them! Mickey and Minnie have to avoid all kinds of danger as they try to make their way to Mermaid Lagoon. During their swim, they pass by Goofy, and a very familiar-looking statue of Mickey (it’s actually inspired by the Mickey statue featured on the Disney Magic cruise ship).

And while you’ll want to keep your eyes open for easter eggs and hidden details, you’ll also want to keep those ears open too. At one point, Mickey might just make a very distinct reference to Finding Nemo by saying a signature phrase — “fish are friends, not food!”

Eventually, Mickey and Minnie do get you to Mermaid Lagoon where you’ll see 2 very specific mermaids — Donald and Daisy Duck in fact have been transformed into mermaids!! The design of these characters is really fun and it’s something you won’t want to miss.

Ready for more unique details you won’t want to miss or things you need to know about the AquaMouse? Check out our list below:

  • You’ll spend 75 seconds in the conveyor to check out those Mickey shorts
  • Each story will play out on 9 screens in that conveyor section that alternate from right to left
  • Around the screens are spray nozzles with water effects timed to match the story — expect to be totally SOAKED by the time you reach the top of the conveyor section
  • The ride itself consists of various parts: the conveyor section, followed by an acrylic part where you’ll be able to see down below you, a dark section, bunny hops, another acrylic part, and finally the ending

  • You’ll end in a lazy river that’ll take you to the unload area
  • But, before you unload you’ll get to see one last scene — figures of Mickey and Minnie with flags in their hands, waving goodbye, and issuing one final message
  • Chip ‘n’ Dale are hidden in both shorts but you’ll really have to look closely to find them! Turns out they’re trying to hitch a ride onto the Disney Wish, and they may have been successful at it too — at one point you might just see them holding signs that say “Castaway Cay or Bust!”
  • The attraction vehicles (inflatable rafts) are fully in story too — you’ll find some bandaids worked into their design, appropriate considering the name of Mickey & Minnie’s excursion company is Port MISadventures!

Some more technical things to know:

  • The load/unload area in this ride is in the same space, so you won’t have to carry the raft around with you anywhere
  • There is a height limit for AquaMouse: 42 inches (those who are smaller but still want a slide experience can check out the family slide — Partysaurus Rex — in the Toy Story water area, where the height limit is 38 inches)
