With 2019 coming to a close, we wanted to look back on the ways Disney seriously stepped up its game when it comes to Moderate Resorts. Moderate Resorts are, as their name implies, priced moderately — between a Value Resort and a Deluxe Resort.
Click here for details on all three categories of Disney World Resorts and some offerings beyond them!
Their amenities match; they typically have more eateries and offerings than a Value, larger rooms than a Value, and recreational upgrades compared to a Value. But they still lack some of the opulence and amenities of a Deluxe.Â
And in 2019, Disney definitely gave ‘Moderate’ a whole new meaning with some seriously impressive enhancements!
Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs Resort
Perhaps the biggest change in Moderate Resorts came with the opening of Gran Destino Tower, the newest addition to Coronado Springs, in July of this year.
The stunning tower was inspired by Spanish art and culture and has many odes to a collaboration by Salvador Dali and Walt Disney called Destino. In addition to a new fitness center and luxe common spaces and rooms, Gran Destino is also filled to the brim with new dining options!
From the rooftop restaurant Toledo — Tapas, Steak, & Seafood to the beautiful Dahlia Lounge, Coronado Springs now finds itself as a must-visit destination for Disney guests.

Refurbishment at Caribbean Beach Resort
Another Moderate Resort that saw major transformations in 2019 is Caribbean Beach.
The resort saw heavy-duty over a couple of years with construction of the Disney Skyliner gondola system as well as overall improvements to the Resort grounds.
The refurbishments added or refreshed THREE new dining locations!
These include Sebastian’s Bistro, the Banana Cabana poolside bar, and the quick service spot Centertown Market. These spots all received an aesthetic overhaul and new menus (with some old favorites remaining here and there).
And the refurbishment didn’t stop there. The rooms at Caribbean Beach also received an update. So while Caribbean Beach was a rough Resort to enjoy for few years, it’s finally ready to make its way back on guests’ must-stay lists!

After all of the enhancements made in 2019, would you consider staying at a Moderate resort in 2020? Are you Team Coronado or Team Caribbean? Let us know in the comments!
Only select moderate resorts have improved. Although we have stayed several times at Port Orleans French Quarter and enjoy the resort, I do believe that it is time for renovations. The bus shelter is inadequate and ridiculously crowded at times. The pool is fine, but there is not enough seating, and in fact, there is nowhere to just sit and relax other than the pool area and scattered benches elsewhere on the property. The boat to Disney Springs is nice, but waits can be long. The food court is boring and the selections very limited, considering there is no other restaurant available. Further, the food court can be quite messy and poorly maintained. The main building has a lot of wasted space that could be put to some kind of use for entertainment/relaxation purposes, perhaps for activities for children. There are not enough elevators in the guest accommodation buildings, requiring long walks to some rooms, especially if one if disabled. The resort could use some sprucing up.
We have stayed here the last two years . It has been a nightmare last year I ended up with food poisoning . My husband as said if that resort is the only one open he wont go. We had the rudest person at the checkin we have ever had in disney.
