The day we’ve all been waiting for is fast approaching!
May 3rd is a BIG day for Disney coaster fans! After OVER A YEAR of being closed for a lengthy refurbishment, Big Thunder Mountain is FINALLY reopening to guests! If you’re heading out to Magic Kingdom to celebrate the ride’s return, you’re certainly not alone. We’ve been scoping out the best fit to sport for the ride’s reopening, and we came across this find on Amazon that we just had to share!
Big Thunder Mountain has been closed since January 6th, 2025, so its return has been a long time comin’.
When it reopens its doors, it’ll do so with a plethora of changes. The height requirement has been lowered to 38″, a new smoother track was installed, the exterior was given a facelift, and new lighting and effects were added inside. There will even be a Rainbow Caverns scene inside the ride!
The story even got some changes! Disney has said that, “The story of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad dates back to Olden Times, or rather, Golden Times, during the early days of America’s first major gold rush. When Barnabas T. Bullion struck gold in the Big Thunder region, he saw a future full of riches and hustled to start the Big Thunder Mountain Company.” However, “Bullion quickly found himself in a battle with the forces of nature”, and then he found that “strange and unexplainable things started happening” inside the mine. Get ready for the wildest ride in the wilderness!
