Disney’s New CEO Comments on Future of Figment in the Parks and Beyond

Okay, Figment lovers, this one is for you. If you adore that little purple dragon that sparks imagination and creativity, we have a little bit of an update on what’s in store for him.

Hey, Figment!

Now, Figment gets a popcorn bucket every year with the EPCOT Festival of the Arts (and the first Figment popcorn bucket created sheer chaos), and new Figment merchandise is dropping all the time. Figment even has his own meet and greet at EPCOT. But fans want more, so let’s see what Disney’s new CEO had to say about it.

During Disney’s recent shareholder meeting, new Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro answered a question about whether Figment might get his own movie or if we’d see more Figment in the parks. His answer was pretty vague, though. D’Amaro said, “I don’t have anything new to announce at this time, but I can assure you that we’re always exploring new ways for guests to engage with Figment and our other characters that fans love so much.”

Hey, Figment!

So that’s not necessarily a “yes,” but it’s also not a “no.” Fun fact, though, at one point, a Figment movie was in the works with Seth Rogen at the helm of the project. We never heard anything about that movie after, though, so it’s possible Disney isn’t moving forward with it.

BUT, Figment has already made his big screen “debut”. He made a cameo in 2015’s Inside Out and in 2019’s Toy Story 4.

One thing a lot of fans would love to see is an update to his EPCOT ride, Journey Into Imagination with Figment. The ride hasn’t changed since 2002, after all, and maybe a new version would spark more interest in the character with old and new fans alike. But also, we need to see the return of Dreamfinder.

  1. I have loved Figment since I was a child and am so happy that Disney recognized how much we all love him. He is one of the reasons I visit EPCOT.
