Disney warned us about this, and now it seems the time has come!

Ever since Disney World debuted its revised skip-the-standby-line service, we’ve done everything we can to make sure we know the system inside and out. If you’re considering buying Disney’s Lightning Lane services for your upcoming trip soon, there’s a BIG price jump you’ll want to be aware of before it gives you sticker shock!
Disney’s Lightning Lane services are designed to help save you precious park time waiting around in standby lines for rides and attractions. This paid service offers the opportunity to help you get to the rides faster with access through the Lightning Lane for each experience, with a drastically reduced wait time than if you had waited in the standby line.

When Disney World unveiled the Lightning Lane Premier Pass option, which allowed visitors to pay a premium upcharge for access to Lightning Lane experiences WITHOUT having to make an advance reservation for each on the app, it quickly grew in popularity as we began to see the service sell out for days at a time.

Disney warned us early on when the program launched that demand and how Disney continued to market the premium product would “build over time,” but it wasn’t very specific with what that meant. Earlier this year, Disney made their first significant change to the program when it allowed all visitors the option to purchase Lightning Lane Premier Pass a few days in advance of their visit instead of its initial rollout to Disney World hotel guests only. Most recently, though, we’ve noticed a significant change in the already pricey service’s cost for Magic Kingdom from its typical $399 or less per person per day, growing to a whopping $417 on September 29th…

…and October 1st. Does this signal a formal change in the uptick in pricing from here on out?

As of now, the posted prices for the dates in between are below the $400 threshold. If you were planning to purchase Premier Pass, it might make sense to avoid these two dates to save quite a bit of cash. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the $419 price tag — we typically see the prices increase when Disney expects more demand, AKA more crowds — but it still doesn’t make it less shocking.
For now, it seems that only time will tell if this is just testing the higher prices of this paid service or if we’ll continue to see its prices rise over the coming months through the end of the year, as was earlier alluded to.
