Disney Says Lightning Lane Premier Pass Will “Build Over Time”

When Disney initially announced Lightning Lane Premier Pass for Disney World and Disneyland, there was quite a bit of controversy, especially considering the service’s price point.

However, Lightning Lane Premier Pass is still around, and it seems that Disney has plans to continue offering the service. Not only that, but Disney just revealed something during its Q1 2025 earnings call: Lightning Lane Premier Service will change and “build over time.”

Lightning Lane Premier Pass is a premium version of Disney’s Lightning Lane Multi Pass that allows Disney Parks visitors to skip the standby line at rides for the shorter Lightning Lanes. The difference is that Lightning Lane Premier Pass allows visitors to hop into any Lightning Lane at any time, whereas those with Multi Pass must book specific time windows to enter Lightning Lanes.

The biggest difference between the two services, though, is the price. Lightning Lane Premier Pass varies by date and park, with rates ranging from $129 to $449 per person, plus tax.

When asked about Lightning Lane Premier Pass, Disney CEO Bob Iger reminded everyone that this is a premium product and one that Disney is still learning how to use. He spoke about how the company is marketing it gently and moving slowly with it so that it’s a great experience for those who buy it, but also for other guests in the parks.

Iger also said that the service would “build over time.” As to what that means, it could suggest we’ll see changes made to the service. Previously, Lightning Lane Premier Pass was only available to guests staying at Disney-owned hotels. However, the service is now available to everyone, although those staying at Disney hotels will be able to purchase it seven days out from their trip, while everyone else can purchase it three days out. This is the same policy Disney has for its less expensive Lightning Lane Multi Pass service.

  1. I suspect the next interaction will be an unlimited premiere pass for attractions that cannot be purchased as an individual lightning lane like Rise or Flight of Passage. Those can be ridden once, then other attractions can be ridden an unlimited number of times by skipping the line much like Express Pass at Universal allows.

Disney may also offer an ultimate pass that allows for skipping the lines at all parks in a single day when paired with a park Hopper.

Whatever the next phase is, I hope it costs an insane amount of money. If people want to skip the lines, I want them charged for it to the point that most people won’t afford it.
