REVIEW: Birria Tacos in Disneyland? Yes, Please!

Disneyland has some of the best food you’ll find at any Disney Park! As great as that is, it does make it difficult to choose where to eat when you’re at the Disneyland Resort.

Disney California Adventure

From quick service to sit-down restaurants, Disneyland has so many good options. We recently went to Disney California Adventure to eat at Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill, and we’re letting you know if it’s worth it!

Background

Cocina Cucamonga is located in the newer San Fransokyo Square area. The space themed after Disney’s animated Big Hero 6 is built like a market. They have a few different quick-service dining options in the area.

Atmosphere

The quick-service spot doesn’t have any indoor seating. It’s an outdoor walk-up counter where you’ll place your order and then pick it up at a window. There is also a mobile order option. Even though there is no indoor seating, the outdoor area as a whole has a lot of spots to sit.

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

First up, we grabbed the QuesaBirria for $12.49. This was braised beef and cheese tacos with tomatillo salsa and consomé. For this price, you get two tacos with a side of a couple of slices of lime and radishes.

QuesaBirria

We’ve gotten this before, as this is a go-to of ours when we’re at the park for fun! It hasn’t disappointed before, and it sure enough did not disappoint now. It came with a generous amount of meat compared to the other times we’ve had this. The braised beef was tender and full of a rich beef flavor.

We love getting these!

The taco shells were crispy, and there was melted cheese both inside the taco and on the outside of the shell, adding a nice and subtle cheesy flavor throughout. The consomé takes away from the crispiness and adds to the beefy flavor. If you love carne asada tacos, there’s no reason you wouldn’t like these! The only thing was that they were a little greasy, but no big deal.

Try these when you’re at the park!

We also had to grab the Tacos Dorados de Papa for $10.99. This is a plant-based offering at this spot. You get two crispy potato tacos topped with cabbage slaw, dairy-free crema, and tomatillo salsa. To be honest, they are a little bland. Most of the flavor comes from the dairy-free crema, which is fresh and creamy and tastes like regular crema.

Tacos Dorados de Papa

The cabbage slaw added a crunch but not much flavor. Inside, the potatoes didn’t have a lot going for them taste-wise, and definitely could’ve benefitted from seasoning, sauce, or something to boost their flavor. The texture of it was similar to a baked potato.

These were kind of bland

We grabbed a seasonal item, which was the Ube Cake Flan for $7.49. This was an ube cake and vanilla flan. If you’re not a huge fan of ube flavors, we feel like it actually worked with this dessert. The main flavor here came from the vanilla flan, which made up the bulk of this dish. The vanilla cake was sweet and rich with a spongy and moist texture.

Ube Cake Flan

The ube cake had a texture similar to the flan but with an earthy flavor and hints of sweetness. If you’re eating here and want a dessert, we’d highly recommend it.

This was a good dessert

To drink, we picked up the Cucumber Chia Agua Fresca for $6.99. We found the drink extremely refreshing, and it had fantastic, subtle flavors. You mostly get the light cucumber flavor, but the hints of lime and mint are splashed in with each sip!

When getting a drink here again, we’d probably choose this over any soda. We just found it more light and refreshing!

This was so refreshing

Magic or Tragic?

This Disneyland restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You’re looking for something quick and easy! It’s a quick-service location, and you can get the food fast with mobile ordering available.
  • You like Mexican food! If you like Mexican food, this is a spot you’ll definitely enjoy.
  • You’re just looking for something different! This spot doesn’t have your usual American theme park food (burgers, fries, chicken fingers).

You should skip this Disneyland spot if…

  • You want to find a spot to sit and eat! This is a great spot to grab something quick, but if you want to sit, relax, and have a nice meal, there are sit down options we love at the park.
  • You’re a picky eater! Some of the flavors and items on the dishes might be a little much for those who are picky when it comes to food.
  • You don’t like spicy food! The food isn’t crazy spicy here, but it definitely has a kick to it.
Here’s our spread!

This is one of our go-to spots when we need a quick meal in California Adventure. The QuesaBirria has never disappointed us, and they have other great options as well. Seating can be tricky on busy days, so just keep an eye out for empty spots.
