4 Disney Restaurants That Tried Way, Way, WAY Too Hard to Be Quirky and Different

Disney World restaurants are known for their theming and decor that can transport you into an actual story. 

However, sometimes Disney World restaurants miss the mark and try too hard. There are a few restaurants at Disney World where the theming is cool, and the menu is not great. We applaud Disney for trying, but these four restaurants are a little too different for us. 

Space 220

Who would not want to dine in space? In EPCOT, you can take the Stellarvator from Earth into space. It can be cool for your party to get their ticket to space and dine in an immersive atmosphere at Space 220. Sometimes, when we dine here, we forget we are in EPCOT because the theming is so immersive. But is it doing too much to be different? 

We find the food here to be a hit or miss, which can be disappointing if you look forward to dining here. The menu is prix-fixe for both lunch and dinner. This can catch some people by surprise if they plan to do a long park day and do not want to have a big meal. That said, this also means that you have to wait longer to get your food since you have to go through multiple courses. This can take away time from your park day and can set you behind if you have other plans.

Space 220 has a cool theme, but sometimes we think it is trying too hard to stand out and be different when the food is not the best. Instead, we suggest dining at a restaurant inside the World Showcase.

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant

In Hollywood Studios, you can find Sci-Fi Dine-In, and it’s one of the hardest reservations to get in this park! Here, you get taken back to the ‘50s drive-in theater. The tables are inside cars, which fit the theme perfectly. It is always nighttime in here, and it can make you forget that there is a whole theme park outside.

While the theme of sitting in a car is cool, it can make things a little awkward. If you sit in a car, there are cars with two or three rows, and each row seats two. This means a party of four would have to sit two and two with their backs to each other. The seating arrangement makes it difficult to have a conversation with your party. A party of two may also be seated right behind you in your car, which can also be awkward. We get the idea here, but we are not fans of how the seats are set up.

The food here is also not the best. It is just your average burgers and fries. Nothing really stands out. If you are looking for a better meal with fun theming, we suggest going over to ’50s Prime Time Café.

ABC Commissary

Staying in Hollywood Studios, you can find ABC Commissary. This quick-service restaurant is meant to resemble the actual ABC commissary food court in Burbank. The idea here is cool and fits the theme of Hollywood Studios well. Except that this theming falls short when you do not understand it. To us, we get hospital cafeteria vibes in here and would rather dine somewhere with a better theme.

We actually enjoy a few of the menu items here as they are different than your typical theme park chicken fingers and burgers. It is a good option for a quick meal, especially since they offer quick service, but to us, we think the theme here is just too quirky.

Instead, we would grab a quick bite over at Woody’s Lunch Box. The theming inside of Toy Story Land is so cute, and the menu at Woody’s Lunch Box has so many must-gets like Totchos.

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo

Now we know that this might be controversial for Star Wars fans, but hear us out! The theming of Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo fits well in Galaxy’s Edge, but we think the menu is trying a little too hard here.

We think the menu is a little out there and might not cater to picky eaters. The names of each menu item can turn people away because dishes like Yobshrimp Tiingilar Stew and Endorian Fried Chicken Tip-Yip sound a little wild. There is also only one kids’ menu item, and although it is just chicken tenders and mac and cheese, it might be hard to convince your child to try Fried Chicken Tip-Yip Youngling.

Instead, we would recommend heading over to Ronto Roasters to order a Ronto Wrap if you still want to eat in Galaxy’s Edge. 

Themed dining is super cool, and of course, there are fans of these restaurants who will choose them every trip. However, if you aren’t big into theming, then you might want to skip these. For more Disney dining tips and news, be sure to follow AllEars.net.
