Disney has been in the news a lot lately for lawsuits, board battles, and low stock numbers.

We’ve been awaiting the results of the Disney v. DeSantis feud and watching as the company shares its plans for park expansions. With all the big, company-altering updates, it’s about time we share with you some light-hearted, endearing Disney World news. This is the kind of news we really want to bring you.
A baby African elephant has been born in Disney’s Animal Kingdom! We are pleased to announce Corra, the 218-pound baby elephant that was recently born just in time for the holidays.

Corra, the first African elephant calf born in Animal Kingdom since 2016, was born to her mom, Nadirah, who was also born in Animal Kingdom back in 2005. This makes Corra the first second-generation calf in the park.

Nadirah’s sister Luna was with her to guide and comfort her through the process of delivering her first baby. (If that’s not the most special family moment, we don’t know what is.) Elephant females tend to assist in raising babies, so we will most likely see Grandma Donna and Aunt Stella helping out as Corra gets older. Elephants typically become more independent around eight years old, so the family bonds will grow over the next few years.

According to Disney, “African elephant births, like these, are carefully planned through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan. This program helps ensure the responsible breeding of endangered animals in managed care.” Nadirah’s naturally occurring pregnancy lasted nearly 22 months! She received and will continue to receive excellent care from the dedicated animal keepers, endocrinologists, and veterinarians.

Regardless of the fact that she weighs 218 pounds, we just want to scoop her up and give her all our hugs and cuddles. With all her wrinkles and tiny trunk, she is the most adorable thing we’ve seen today. This is the kind of joyful news we needed this holiday season.
