Disney Needs New Rules for Soarin’ in EPCOT

Soarin’ is one of the most beloved rides at Disney World, and it has been for years.

We really enjoyed this new version!

The hang-gliding simulation over sweeping landscapes never really gets old, and the queue in The Land Pavilion fills up fast on even the slowest park days. But loving a ride and thinking it could be better are not mutually exclusive, and honestly, Disney has left some pretty obvious improvements on the table here. Here are some changes that would make Soarin’ an even better experience for everyone.

Fix Where the Lightning Lane Merges Into the Standby Line

Soarin’ is a Tier 2 attraction on Lightning Lane Multi Pass at EPCOT, and while booking it still makes sense given how long the standby line can get, the actual Lightning Lane experience here can be a bit frustrating.

Soarin’ Lightning Lane Queue

The merge point is positioned right before guests split into the different theater bays, which means Lightning Lane holders are still stuck in a slow-moving queue for a significant chunk of time. The time savings are much smaller than you would expect. Moving the merge point further down the queue would make the Lightning Lane feel like it is actually worth using. Right now, it feels like it’s a bit of a hollow promise.

Open All Three Theaters Every Day

A third theater was added to Soarin’ specifically to help manage demand and bring wait times down. The problem is that Disney doesn’t always run all three theaters at once, and guests end up standing in a lot of long lines because capacity is being left on the floor.

Soarin’

We’d love to see all three theaters operating every day the park is open. It feels like it could be one of the simplest fixes on this list, and it would have an immediate and noticeable impact on wait times.

Bring Back a Consistent Single Rider Line

Single rider lines really are underrated at Disney World, and Soarin’ is genuinely one of the best candidates for one. The ride loads guests into long rows, and groups of various sizes leave gaps that are impossible to fill without either delaying boarding or leaving seats empty. A single rider line would solve this pretty efficiently.

Soarin’ Single Rider

Disney has tested a single rider option at Soarin’ before, but it never became a permanent fixture. Making it a standard part of daily operations would reduce wait times for everyone, not just solo riders. Guests who want to stick with their group can still do that. Solo travelers and guests who do not mind splitting up just get a faster option.

Let Guests Choose the Center Section

Soarin’s wide dome is genuinely impressive, but guests seated on the far edges of the outer theaters can run into a bit of an immersion problem. The curved screen causes some distortion from those side-angle positions, and even though the film does a solid job of choosing shots that minimize the effect, certain landmarks still look noticeably warped from the wings. A curved Mount Rushmore or a lopsided Statue of Liberty is not exactly the awe-inspiring moment the ride is going for.

Soarin’ Across America Spaceship Earth

The fix is straightforward. Disney should offer guests the option to wait in a separate line specifically for the center theater. Some people will absolutely trade an extra 15 to 20 minutes of wait time for a perfectly straight, undistorted view of the landscape. Theme park rides live and die by their most immersive moments, and no one should have to accept a warped one just because of where they got seated.

Soarin’

Soarin’ is a genuine gem in EPCOT’s lineup, and these changes wouldn’t reinvent it. They would just help it live up to its potential more consistently. Keep checking back with AllEars for the latest updates, tips, and news on everything happening across Disney World.
