I’ve Stayed in Every Universal Hotel and Now I’m Ranking Them ALL

I have slept in every Universal Orlando hotel, which means I have opinions, memories, and at least one very specific grudge against a hotel bus line.

Time for a trip to the pool!

So this ranking is not just about which hotel is “nicest.” It’s value, location, theme, perks, food, vibes, convenience, and whether I felt like I got my money’s worth or just paid luxury prices to stare lovingly at a parking lot.

Disney Vacation Planner

Universal has 11 on-site hotels spread across three categories: Signature Collection, Prime Value Hotels, and Value Inns and Suites. For the purposes of this ranking, I’m grouping the two Endless Summer hotels together because Surfside Inn and Suites and Dockside Inn and Suites are basically vacation siblings: slightly different outfits, same general homework assignment.

Also, a quick note before anyone starts typing in all caps: every Universal Orlando hotel gets some version of on-site perks, including Early Park Admission, complimentary transportation, resort-wide charging privileges, and merchandise delivery. But only three hotels currently include Universal Express Unlimited for Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure: Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel, and Loews Royal Pacific Resort. That perk does not apply at Universal Epic Universe or Volcano Bay.

Let’s count them down.

10. Universal Terra Luna Resort

I don’t dislike Terra Luna. I want to be very clear about that before Terra Luna develops feelings and sends me a strongly worded moon rock. This is one of Universal’s newer Prime Value hotels, and it has a lot going for it on paper. It has 750 guest rooms, a resort-style pool, a fire pit, a game room, multiple dining options, complimentary transportation, and Early Park Admission benefits.

Quincy at Terra Luna!

The issue is that Terra Luna is sitting next to Stella Nova, and Stella Nova just has the better practical setup.

Terra Luna has the same general “new, spacey, fairly affordable Universal hotel near Epic Universe” appeal, but unlike Stella Nova, it does not have that easy walking path to Epic Universe that makes Stella feel like a stronger pick. I tested the Stella Nova path and found it took around five minutes to reach the crosswalk near Epic Universe. Terra Luna, meanwhile, relies more heavily on shuttle transportation.

Terra Luna Room

Again, Terra Luna is not bad. It is clean, new, efficient, and probably a totally fine choice for a lot of travelers. But in a ranking of every Universal hotel, “totally fine” is where the elevator music starts playing.

  • Book Terra Luna if the price is right and you do not care about walking to Epic Universe.
  • Skip it if Stella Nova is close in price.

9. Universal Endless Summer Resort

This ranking includes both Surfside Inn and Suites and Dockside Inn and Suites, because they serve the same basic purpose: save money, sleep people, get to the parks, repeat.

Universal Endless Summer Resort Surfside Inn & Suites lobby

Universal’s Endless Summer hotels are Value Inns and Suites, and their biggest selling point is the two-bedroom suite setup. Surfside offers two-bedroom suites that sleep up to six, along with a large surfboard-shaped pool, splash pad, food court, game room, and complimentary transportation. Dockside also offers two-bedroom suites that sleep six, making these hotels some of the strongest budget plays for families or groups who would rather not perform suitcase Jenga in one tiny room.

Universal Endless Summer Resort — Dockside Inn

Are the amenities limited? Yes. This is not where you go for a luxury pool day, a romantic dinner, or an “I have arrived” lobby moment. But if you are traveling with kids, grandparents, cousins, and three people who all need separate beds, Endless Summer makes a strong argument.

Endless Summer — Dockside Inn

The downside is location. You are not walking to the parks from here. You are on the bus plan. And while Universal transportation is generally pretty efficient, a bus is still a bus. It has bus energy. I respect it, but I do not romanticize it.

  • Book Endless Summer if space and price matter most.
  • Skip it if you want immersive theming, strong dining, or quick access without waiting for transportation.

8. Universal Aventura Hotel

Aventura is the hotel I always want to like a little more than I actually do. It is sleek. It is modern. It has floor-to-ceiling-window energy. It has a rooftop bar, tech-forward rooms, and an in-room tablet that lets you control lighting and temperature, order pizza, access streaming, and request deliveries from Relay the Robot. Yes, a robot can bring things to your room. This is either delightful or the beginning of a polite robot uprising, depending on your caffeine level.

Aventura

Aventura also has a walking path to Volcano Bay, plus the shuttle to Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Epic Universe, and CityWalk.

So why isn’t it higher?

Because Aventura is cool, but it is not especially warm. The theme is more “modern airport lounge with better lighting” than “vacation fantasy.” That is not automatically a problem. Some people want clean lines, tech perks, and a rooftop drink. I am some people.

Aventura Room

But compared with Universal’s more immersive hotels, Aventura can feel a little thin. It is a good balance pick, not a heart pick.

  • Book Aventura if you like modern rooms, rooftop drinks, tech amenities, and a quieter feel.
  • Skip it if you want big resort theming or a hotel that feels like part of the vacation story.

7. Universal Stella Nova Resort

Stella Nova is one of Universal’s newest hotels, and it has one very important thing Terra Luna does not have: a walkable setup for Epic Universe.

Stellar Collision

Universal describes Stella Nova as a galaxy-inspired Prime Value hotel with 750 guest rooms, a massive pool, a game room, multiple dining options, and Early Park Admission benefits. I also tested the walking path to Epic Universe and found it took around five minutes to get from the hotel to the crosswalk near the park entrance. That matters. A lot.

Views from the walking path!

When you are dealing with a theme park day, especially at a new park, the difference between “we can walk over” and “we need to get in the bus pile” can feel enormous. Tiny logistical wins become vacation currency. You start hoarding them like dragons.

The hotel itself is fun, especially if you have space-loving kids or adults who still get excited by a good hallway ceiling. But the amenities are still a bit sparse compared with some of Universal’s more established resorts.

Floors

So Stella Nova lands here because the location is doing a lot of heavy lifting. I like it. I would stay there again. But I would not mistake it for a full resort experience.

  • Book Stella Nova if Epic Universe is your main priority and you want good value near the park.
  • Skip it if you want richer amenities, destination dining, or a hotel pool day that feels like an event.

6. Loews Portofino Bay Hotel

Portofino Bay is beautiful. It is immersive. It is dramatic. It looks like it wants you to pronounce “gelato” with commitment.

Universal’s Portofino Bay Hotel

It is themed after an Italian seaside village, and it has long been one of Universal’s most beloved splurge hotels. It also includes Universal Express Unlimited for Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, which can completely change the math on an expensive stay.

Portofino Bay has 750 guest rooms, a harbor piazza, three themed pools, eight restaurants and lounges, and a big resort footprint. Portofino Bay is Universal’s oldest hotel, opening back in 1999, and the Italian seaside village theme remains a major part of its appeal.

Universal Portofino Bay

And that is where my ranking gets complicated.

I understand why people love Portofino Bay. When it hits, it hits. The theme is gorgeous, the dining lineup is strong, and Express Unlimited being included can make this hotel feel less like a splurge and more like a strategy. But it can also feel a little dated in places. Not ruined. Not tragic. Just… old enough to have opinions about low-rise jeans.

Two queen beds

For the price, I want the room, location, transportation, and overall polish all firing at the same time. Portofino Bay still delivers a lot, but I do not think it wins the Universal hotel fight anymore.

  • Book Portofino Bay if you want Italy-in-Orlando theming, Express Unlimited, and lots of dining.
  • Skip it if you are sensitive to dated rooms or want the shortest walk to the parks.

5. Loews Royal Pacific Resort

Royal Pacific is gorgeous. This hotel understands atmosphere. It has that tropical, relaxed, “maybe I should cancel my afternoon plans and become a pool person” quality that Universal hotels do really well when they are on their game. It is a South Seas escape with palm trees, island theming, and close access to the action.

Elephant Fountain at Loews Royal Pacific Resort

And yes, it includes Universal Express Unlimited for Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, which is a massive benefit.

Royal Pacific also has one of my favorite overall themes at Universal. It feels transportive without being too loud. The lobby is lovely. The grounds are beautiful. The whole place whispers, “Relax,” while your theme park brain screams, “We have 19 rides to do and a pretzel appointment.”

Universal Loews Royal Pacific Resort

So why is it not higher?

Because Royal Pacific has gotten expensive. And when you are paying those rates, the conversation changes. I love the theme. I love the location. I love the Express perk. But I do not always love the value.

If you are using Express heavily, especially with a family, Royal Pacific can absolutely make sense. If you are not, the price gets harder to defend.

  • Book Royal Pacific if you want a beautiful tropical resort and Express Unlimited.
  • Skip it if the rate is sky-high and you are not planning to use Express to its maximum efficiency.

4. Loews Sapphire Falls Resort

Sapphire Falls is sneaky good. It does not include Express Unlimited, which is the big knock against it. But once you get past that, Sapphire Falls has a lot of the amenities and polish people associate with Universal’s more expensive hotels.

Loews Sapphire Falls

It is a Signature Collection hotel, and Loews notes that it has 1,000 rooms, water taxi and shuttle service to the theme parks and CityWalk, four restaurants and lounges with water views, a resort-style pool with a white-sand beach and waterslide, and cabana rentals.

That is a lot.

The theme is pleasant, though maybe a little forgettable. I am not saying it lacks personality entirely. I am saying if Universal hotel themes were dinner guests, Sapphire Falls would be the nice one who brings wine but does not tell the wildest story at the table.

Still, it works. The water taxi access is huge. The pool is strong. The resort feels more upscale than the price often suggests. And if you are not trying to rope drop every Express attraction at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, the lack of included Express may not bother you as much.

  • Book Sapphire Falls if you want a more polished resort without paying top-tier Express-included prices.
  • Skip it if Express Unlimited is the whole reason you are staying on property.

3. Hard Rock Hotel

Hard Rock Hotel has swagger. It knows exactly what it is, and it does not apologize for the guitars.

Hard Rock Hotel

This is one of Universal’s big convenience hotels, especially if your trip is centered on Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and CityWalk. AllEars has noted that Hard Rock is the closest in walking distance to the original two parks and CityWalk, with a shorter stroll than many guests have from the parking area. It also includes Universal Express Unlimited for Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.

Hard Rock Hotel lobby

Then there are the music perks. Hard Rock’s Sound of Your Stay program lets guests check out guitars and earbuds, listen to curated playlists, and even borrow records with a turntable setup. Universal also describes the hotel as having California mission-style design, a palm-lined swimming pool with underwater music, and all the rock-and-roll energy you would expect.

Is guitar rental a practical hotel amenity? No. Is it hilarious and wonderful that you can borrow a guitar on vacation? Absolutely. Imagine coming back from riding Revenge of the Mummy and deciding your next move is a private room concert for no one but your suitcase.

©Loews Hotels

Hard Rock is expensive, yes. But between the walkability, Express Unlimited, dining, pool, and distinct personality, it earns its spot near the top.

  • Book Hard Rock if you want the best access to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure with a big side of music energy.
  • Skip it if you want calm, subtle, quiet luxury. This hotel owns speakers.

2. Universal Helios Grand Hotel

Helios Grand is the hotel I want to rank number one, and then I look at the price and have a quiet financial moment. This hotel is stunning. It is located at Epic Universe at the end of Celestial Park, has 500 rooms, one-of-a-kind views, a dedicated entrance into the theme park, a rooftop bar, a resort-style pool, and multiple restaurants and lounges.

Let me say that again: dedicated entrance into Epic Universe.

That is not a small perk. That is a vacation cheat code wearing Mediterranean perfume. I tested the Helios Grand exclusive hotel entrance and called out how valuable it was for entering, exiting, and returning to Epic Universe throughout the day. The dining is also one of the big wins here. I especially love Flora Taverna and rooftop Bar Helios as part of what makes the hotel feel like a true splurge.

Hotel room in Grand Helios in Epic Universe

So why is Helios not number one? Value.

Helios Grand is a standout hotel in almost every category except “my wallet feels peaceful.” It also does not include Universal Express Unlimited, since that perk is limited to Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, and Royal Pacific for the original two parks.

Mount Olympus

If your trip is all about Epic Universe and you want the most convenient, high-end, “I am basically sleeping inside the park” experience, Helios is the obvious pick. If you are trying to do all of Universal Orlando and squeeze the most value out of every dollar, it gets trickier.

  • Book Helios Grand if Epic Universe is the centerpiece of your trip and you want the best location Universal has ever offered.
  • Skip it if you need included Express or cannot make peace with the price.

1. Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort

Cabana Bay is the best Universal hotel. I will now duck behind a retro pool chair.

Universal’s Cabana Bay

No, it is not the fanciest. No, it does not include Express Unlimited. No, it is not sitting inside Epic Universe like Helios Grand looking smug and sun-drenched.

But Cabana Bay is unbeatable at its price point. Is a value-priced hotel with a retro 1950s and ’60s beach resort theme, two massive pools, a waterslide, a lazy river, a 10-lane bowling alley, family suites that sleep up to six with kitchenettes, and standard rooms that sleep up to four.

That is an absurd amount of resort for a Value hotel.

Cabana Bay is not just a place to sleep. It is a whole little vacation ecosystem. You can swim, float the lazy river, bowl, grab food, stay in a family suite, and enjoy one of the most fun hotel themes Universal has ever built. It is bright, specific, cheerful, and actually useful.

It also has something the newer value-style hotels do not quite have yet: tradition. People love Cabana Bay. They return to Cabana Bay. They have Cabana Bay routines. They have favorite buildings, favorite pool plans, favorite snacks, favorite “we are absolutely not going to the parks today” habits.

Cabana Bay is the hotel I recommend constantly because it threads the needle better than any other Universal hotel. Families like it. Budget travelers like it. Theme park fans like it. People who want amenities without premium prices like it. People who understand the spiritual value of a lazy river after 27,000 steps really like it.

Is it perfect? No. You do not get the Express perk, and depending on where your room is, the resort can feel spread out. But for the price, amenities, theme, and overall fun factor, Cabana Bay is the Universal hotel I keep coming back to as the best all-around pick.

  • Book Cabana Bay if you want the most hotel for your money, especially with kids or a group.
  • Skip it if Express Unlimited is non-negotiable or you want luxury-level quiet.

So, Which Universal Hotel Should YOU Book?

Here is the short version:

  • Book Cabana Bay if you want the best overall value.
  • Book Helios Grand if Epic Universe is the whole point of your trip and the budget allows.
  • Book Hard Rock if you want the best access to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure plus Express Unlimited.
  • Book Sapphire Falls if you want upscale vibes without the biggest price tag.
  • Book Endless Summer if you need space for six without selling a kidney to a theme park wizard.
Volcano Bay

The good news is that Universal has become a legitimate hotel destination. These are not just “places near the parks.” A lot of them are part of the vacation.

The bad news is that choosing one can feel like trying to pick a favorite child, except some of the children include Express Pass, and one has a bowling alley.

Shops

Want to walk through each resort with me? Lucky for you, I’ve compiled them all into one video:

I’ve stayed in them all. I’ve ranked them all. And yes, I am still thinking about Cabana Bay’s lazy river.
