Why You’ll Always Find Me at This Disney World Attraction at 5 PM

While Disney’s Animal Kingdom has always been home to thrilling rides — like the gone-but-not-forgotten DINOSAUR, as well as Expedition Everest, and Flight of Passage — and will soon be home to even more, the park’s main draw has always been the live animals that give it its name.

While animal attractions like Kilimanjaro Safaris or the Maharaja Jungle Trek are well known, there are several animal experiences at the park that — sometimes literally — fly under the radar, including one which takes place at 5:00 PM each day.

As was recently shared by @DrMarkatDisney — AKA Dr. Mark Penning, Disney Vice President of Animals, Science and Environment — each day at 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, guests can watch Disney staff feed the Flamingos that live in the park’s Discovery Island area.

The short clip details the procedure…

… and the diet of the park’s flamingos. And honestly, we’re kind of OBSESSED!

A quick scroll through Penning’s Instagram shows that he’s often sharing content about the park’s animals. Penning has also had a long career working with animals outside of Disney, serving as CEO of the South African Association for Marine Biological Research, President of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, as a member of the board of both the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, and is a trustee of Wild Welfare, a UK-based animal welfare organization.

Recently, Disney’s VP of Animals, Science and Environment, Dr. Mark Penning, shared an Instagram video of Animal Kingdom’s flamingo feeding, reminding us where we need to be at the park each day at 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on the park’s animal inhabitants!
