Man Sues Carnival Cruise Line For Burns From Hot Deck

Cruising is a very different type of vacation from the others out there, but for many people, they feel it’s the most relaxing. There are dozens of cruise companies out there, but one of the most prominent and popular is Carnival Cruise Line.

Back in August 2025, it was reported that two guests drowned at the cruise line’s $600 Million Bahamas resort, and now, the cruise line is in the news again. This time, it’s due to a passenger suing them for severe burns he received while on one of the ship’s decks.

According to 2 WGRZ, a Florida man is suing Carnival Cruise Line, claiming he got second-degree burns on his feet “within seconds” while walking barefoot on a cruise ship deck. Jorge Luis Alverio Nunez, the affected passenger, claims he walked about 20 steps on the deck in May of last year, where he got burned on the bottoms of his feet.

The lawsuit claims that the “Plaintiff could not reasonably anticipate that the deck surface had reached temperatures capable of causing severe second-degree burns within seconds of ordinary contact,” and is saying that the cruise line failed to “provide warnings about the dangerously hot deck.” The lawsuit states the cruise line also failed to replace the deck with a safer material, require shoes for safety, or monitor deck temperatures.

The lawsuit also stated that the injury has been “severe and life changing” and that he requires extensive medical treatment to manage the injury. He is seeking a payment of at least $5 million to pay for his ” medical expenses, lost earnings, disfigurement, mental anguish and other repercussions.” The lawsuit also claims that Carnival Cruise Line has been subject to at least 25 similar injuries and 42 other complaints over the past six years.
