Disney Files NEW Permit for Buzz Lightyear Ride Refurbishment

From closures to reopenings, there’s seriously so much happening at Magic Kingdom that it’s hard to keep up with it all!

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

Among all the changes is the major update on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, which we’re getting closer and closer to. Disney recently filed a new permit, and now we have an update on what changes to expect next!

A Notice of Commencement has been filed on January 5th, 2026, for updates coming to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. The notice was filed with Orange County, Florida, providing details of improvements being made to the popular attraction located in Tomorrowland.

Closed for refurbishment

The attraction has been closed since August 2025, but it looks like significant progress is being made. The permit details the work being done at 1305 Monorail Way, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, 32830, which is the Buzz Lightyear ride. You can see it below!

Disney mentioned that they’re working with Design Communications Ltd. — a company that focuses on custom signage, environmental graphics, tech integration, and architectural elements. This might mean the attraction will feature some sort of new signage!

Signs on the doors

Signage is usually one of the last things that’s done when Disney refurbishes an attraction, so we really could be coming to the end of the refurbishment period. Disney announced not too long ago that the ride is expected to reopen during Spring 2026, around the same time as Big Thunder Mountain. Technically, Spring is a broad period, especially considering it doesn’t officially end until June 21st, 2026. So, we still might have to wait half the year — but it’s coming!

The attraction will feature new targets, new blasters, new ride vehicles, and a new scene to start off the attraction. The new scene will feature Buddy, a new character introduced for the attraction.

Buddy is a support bot at Star Command, and she will be integral to get guests ready for their mission — making sure blasters are calibrated, star cruisers are ready, and providing target practice.
