Are these waffles worth your time?

Here at AllEars, we know all the ins and outs of Disney restaurants — including where you should definitely eat, and where you should skip. We recently stopped by Rainforest Cafe for breakfast at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and are bringing you our FULL review!

Background

Bring your sense of adventure (and a big appetite), because dining at Rainforest Cafe feels like stepping straight into the middle of a tropical safari. This wildly themed restaurant has been delighting families for decades with its mix of animatronic animals, rumbling thunderstorms, and lush jungle scenery. Originally launched in the 1990s, Rainforest Cafe chain restaurants quickly became a hit for blending food with immersive entertainment — something Disney fans know a thing or two about.

Rainforest Cafe

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the restaurant fits right in with the park’s theme of wildlife and conservation, offering a playful yet familiar escape just steps from the park gates. Whether you’re stopping in for a full meal or just popping by for dessert, it’s an experience that’s equal parts dining and adventure, perfect for families looking to keep the fun going long after leaving the savanna.

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

The moment you step inside Rainforest Cafe, you’re transported from the Florida sunshine straight into the heart of the jungle. The lighting dims to a soft twilight glow, and suddenly you’re surrounded by towering trees, hanging vines, and the distant sounds of exotic birds. Every few minutes, the “weather” changes as a tropical thunderstorm rolls in — complete with flashes of lightning and the rumble of thunder that sends the animatronic animals into motion. Elephants trumpet, gorillas pound their chests, and tropical fish drift through massive aquariums, making the entire restaurant feel alive.

It’s an elephant!

It’s the kind of over-the-top theming that calls to Disney fans — immersive, detailed, and endlessly entertaining. Every corner offers something new to discover, from glowing mushrooms to talking tree frogs, all set beneath a twinkling starlit sky that stays constant no matter the time of day. For families, it’s pure magic. Kids are wide-eyed from the moment they walk in, and adults can’t help but be swept up in the nostalgia of it all.

Rainforest Cafe!

Despite the excitement, there’s a surprising coziness to the space. The deep jungle colors and constant background hum of nature sounds make it easy to relax and forget you’re just outside the entrance to one of Disney World’s busiest parks. It’s loud, sure, but it’s a fun kind of loud, the kind that makes you feel like part of the adventure.

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

To start us off, we grabbed the Brazilian Freeze for $6.99. This is a smoothie made with coconut, pineapple, raspberry purée, and banana blended with ice. It was a safe choice. If you’re on the fence about trying something new, or your kids are picky, this is a safe pick.

Brazilian Freeze

It’s like a strawberry banana smoothie with a coconut twist to it. It’s frothy, thick, and holds its own. It was very good, we would totally do this one again — especially for breakfast!

This was really good!

To start out our meal, we picked up the Breakfast of Bandits $17.49. This is made of two eggs prepared your way with a choice of bacon, sausage, or country ham, and served with breakfast potatoes and toast.

Breakfast of Bandits

It’s a safe standard breakfast. The eggs were thick and felt very similar to fast-food eggs, like McDonald’s or Burger King.

The eggs felt like McDonalds

The potatoes were good with some pepper and onions, but not a lot of seasoning outside of that.

Potatoes!

There were lots of jams and jellies available for the toast. It honestly just felt like getting something at Waffle House.

The toast

We also grabbed the Chicken & Waffles for $18.49. This plate is made just how it sounds with a Belgian Waffle, buttermilk fried chicken, country gravy, and two eggs prepared your way. This was by far our favorite!

Chicken & Waffles

This was a boneless chicken breast covered in a brown gravy. The gravy tasted like a turkey bacon-based gravy. The chicken was breaded very nicely and tasted great! If you don’t like a bunch of foods mixing together, this may not work for you.

The chicken!

The dish comes with four thick, fluffy pieces of waffles with strawberries and powdered sugar. Unfortunately, the maple syrup wasn’t that great, so it didn’t add much to the waffles.

The waffles!

Overall, this was a really good meal, despite Rainforest Cafe being just meh. It’s great for families with kids, honestly.

This was a good dish!

Magic or Tragic?

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • If you want something safe! This has a bunch of safe breakfast options, similar to what you’d find at a Waffle House, for example.
  • If you have a big family! Similar to what we’re saying for it being safe, you can’t go wrong with this place for kids — especially picky kids.

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • You want something Disney! There are so many spots to eat at Disney World, we would choose MANY over this one alone. That’s just based on theming alone.
  • You want better food! As we said, you’re at Disney World, there are so many good food options that we would pick over this one.

Overall, we don’t mind the place, but it’s just very simple, very safe, and very basic. There’s nothing wrong with that, and sometimes that’s what we need. It’s just hard to give a place like Rainforest Cafe a lot of love when you have all the options at Disney World surrounding it.

Here’s what we got!

In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Disney news and more!
