The $25 Disney World Hotel Upgrade We Can’t Live Without

Walt Disney World is called the “Most Magical Place on Earth” for a reason. The Vacation Kingdom has wowed millions of guests over the last 50+ years. However, it’s a safe bet that pretty much every one of those guests would also describe the resort as tiring.

Disney’s Pop Century

From walking literal miles across the theme parks to standing upright in queues to simply being up from hours before rope drop to hours past park closing, Walt Disney World can be downright exhausting. That can even extend to the complex’s Value Tier hotels (Pop Century, the All-Stars, and Art of Animation). Thanks to their spread-out construction, certain rooms at these hotels can be a FAR walk to their central food courts and transportation areas, making it a trek to pick up morning coffee in the morning, and a downright slog to walk back from the bus or Skyliner after a 20k step park day. However, the $25 preferred room perk can alleviate this issue.

Disney’s Value Resorts: The All-Star Sports, All-Star Music, All-Star Movies, Art of Animation, and Pop Century are some of the most popular on the property thanks to their comparably lower rates and family-friendly theming.

For an extra $25, you can secure a preferred room at one of the value resorts. What’s the difference between a normal room and a preferred room? As they say in real estate, it’s all about location, location, location.

All-Star Sports Resort

Specifically, a preferred room at one of Disney’s value resorts is “located closer to the main transportation center, the pool or the dining area,” according to PlanDisney. Given the general layout of the value resorts – – a group of motel-style buildings built around a central lobby building – – the closer one is to that central hub, the much more convenient a stay they’ll have. Especially when it comes to spending using the Disney World bus system.

  1. you have to proceed with caution because there are times when they move the line when it comes to “closer” to transportation

  2. The photo that accompanies this article shows a Mickey dial phone. Exact same one we have that sits in our basement unused now. Some things he just don’t fade away.

  3. It used to be you could get these rooms by reserving them before anyone
else. But Disney found another way to charge for something that used to be free.
Keep in mind that Value Resorts used to go for $50 per night. What are they
now? $200-$300 per night! Not my definition of Value…

  4. Can’t agree with the preferred room ‘upgrade.’ All this does is put you in the center of noise and traffic. It’s only a few more steps to much quieter, and less congested buildings.

  5. Last visit we were given a preferred room, even though we didn’t pay for it. Yes I prefer them. I’ve stayed at ever level of hotel and I love the values.
