Universal Is Testing Its Own New Version of Disney World’s Lightning Lane Single Pass

Universal Orlando is testing something very interesting with just a few rides in its parks right now. It might sound a little familiar, too, especially if you’ve been to Disney World recently.

Universal Orlando

First, some context. To skip the lines at Universal Orlando, you can purchase a Universal Express Pass, but it is NOT cheap. For years now, the only options available have been the regular Universal Express option, which lets you skip each included ride once, or Universal Express Unlimited, which lets you skip the included rides as many times as you’d like. But something NEW is in the works, and it reminds us of the system they use in Disney World.

Disney World currently uses a system called Lightning Lane Single Pass, where visitors can “pay per ride” to skip the lines at some of the most popular attractions. Now, it looks like the new Universal Single Attraction Access Express Pass could work similarly, but will it be as successful?

Universal is testing a new system on two rides. Two of the rides that are included with Express Pass are also part of a new individual attraction Express Pass, where you can just pay $25 each to skip the line for those specific rides (much like how Disney World’s Lightning Lane Single Pass works).

Revenge of the Mummy

One of those rides is Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Florida. You can pay $24.99 via the Universal Orlando app and then access the Express Pass line for the ride (the shorter line).

Currently, the Universal Single Attraction Access Express Pass has only been seen at two attractions — Revenge of the Mummy in Universal Studios and Skull Island: Reign of Kong in Universal Islands of Adventure. Interestingly, both standby wait times were between 5 and 10 minutes during our visit, so we can’t really say that the new skip-the-line pass is worth $25 at this time.

You can find this new option on the Universal Orlando app or by scanning the QR code on the sign outside the attraction. Note that this is only listed as a “Special Offer” and it is listed as a limited-time offering, so it may not be available all the time.

Revenge of the Mummy also already has a single rider line, which is another way to get through the line quickly if you’re willing to split up with your party (and don’t want to spend the money on a skip-the-line pass).

Single Rider Time!

That said, this may be a good option if someone REALLY wants to skip the line at just one of these two attractions and doesn’t want to pay $130+ for Express Pass in general. If the line for Revenge of the Mummy is sitting at 65+ minutes and you don’t want to wait in the line, $25 may be a worthy price to pay (but still EXPENSIVE, especially since it’s per person). We have a feeling there are many people who would regret spending that money on Reign of Kong, though, as the line is typically pretty short for this attraction.

To compare, the closest offering to this in Disney World is the Lightning Lane Single Pass, available for select rides around the parks. At the time of writing, these are the Lightning Lane Single Pass prices for each ride (which is per person, per ride) on an upcoming date, October 22nd:

  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train: $13
  • TRON Lightcycle / Run: $21
  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind: $19
  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance: $22
  • Avatar Flight of Passage: $17

These prices are subject to surge pricing, which fluctuates depending on how crowded the parks are that day. Currently, it doesn’t look like the Universal Single Attraction Access Express Pass is using surge pricing, but this could change.

Revenge of the Mummy

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this new addition, as it appears to still be getting its footing — one of the Team Members we spoke to at Revenge of the Mummy wasn’t even sure what it was just yet! Be sure to stay tuned to AllEars — we’ll make sure you stay informed and feel prepared for your next trip.

When Will Universal Orlando Officially ABANDON This Restaurant?!

How high would the wait times have to be for you to spend $25 a person to skip the lines at these attractions? Tell us in the comments!
