The $1,000-a-night Disney Hotel We Just Can’t Recommend

Disneyland Paris is known for many different things — the massive overhaul coming to Walt Disney Studios Park (soon to be Disney Adventure World), Crush’s Coaster, and maybe you’ve seen those gorgeous photos of the park when it snows on occasion.

Disney Hotel New York — Art of Marvel

Or, maybe you’ve heard about all the different themed hotels in the resort. While the Disneyland Paris hotel is arguably the most iconic (and expensive), the Disney Hotel New York — Art of Marvel hotel is next on that list. The original hotel here opened in 1992, but the Marvel overlay opened in 2021, and since then, the price point of this hotel has really shot up. We got a chance to stay at this hotel for a night on our recent trip, and we’ve got something we have to admit — we DON’T recommend staying here 98% of the time, and once we explain, we think you’ll fully agree with us.

Theming

True to its name, this hotel is heavily themed to Marvel. HOWEVER, you need to pay VERY close attention to the name of the hotel, as that’s what it’s really themed after. Yes, the hotel is called “Art of Marvel,” and that’s what we feel it’s essential to pay attention to. Because while there are small hints to the Marvel films, such as the Iron Man and Captain Marvel statues outside the hotel, or some of the artwork throughout the hotel, this hotel is way more themed to the comic books and artwork behind the Marvel franchise.

Captain Marvel Statue

The design of the hotel itself is very blocky, like a comic book style — so much so that it honestly doesn’t even look like a hotel sometimes, and that’s the point. It’s supposed to look like those classic New York buildings that you see in Marvel comics, NOT in real life.

Art of Marvel Hotel exterior

It’s a cool design, don’t get us wrong, however, it may throw some people off when they realize that this style is even more enhanced inside the hotel, such as the lobby.

Art of Marvel Hotel Lobby

For comic book fans, the artwork inside this hotel will be a dream come true. The lobby itself is full of different sketches from multiple different Marvel comics, and that theming continues throughout the whole hotel — look at this comic book wall!

While you will find live-action Marvel representation inside as well, such as Captain America’s shield

Captain America Shield

…and Iron Man’s suits, it’s very much the minority here. With that being said, you really need to be a fan of the Marvel comic books, or have an appreciation for drawing/art in itself to really appreciate this hotel.

Iron Man Suits

In fact, we’d even go as far as to say that fans of only Marvel films will find themselves very disappointed by this hotel, and may feel that their money wasn’t well spent. Which brings us to our next category — the money required to spend even ONE night at this hotel is EGREGIOUS.

Is The Cost Worth It?

Pricing at the Disneyland Paris resort hotels is a little confusing, because when you go to book your tickets, you’ll notice that you can really only buy your park tickets and hotel reservation together, and because of that, it often masks how expensive the hotel you’re staying at really is.

Art of Marvel Hotel entrance

This is exactly what happened to us. When we’re booking a stay, we do prefer to usually book our hotel and Disney tickets together, because when you’re looking at the per person, per night rate, that’s for BOTH tickets and the hotel. For example, if it’s showing you $350 total per night and you do the math to realize that the park ticket is about $75 of that, then you go, “oh, okay $275 a night it’s bad at all!” But that’s if you’re only ONE person. For us, we were traveling with a group of three, meaning that it was $350 per night, PER PERSON, bringing our total to nearly $1,000 a night just for the hotel!

Art of Marvel artwork

That’s A LOT of money to pay, and personally, we don’t feel like the amenities here are really worth it. It’s one of the closest hotels to the Disneyland Paris parks, meaning it’s easy to walk there, but we don’t feel that’s worth it when other hotels right nearby are cheaper and only an extra 5 minute walk. When it comes to dining here, there were no grab and go options available, only two lounges and two table service restaurants that are right next to each other and often have the same hours. If you need a late night snack, the only choice was room service, which was VERY expensive.

There are a few other cool amenities offered, such as:

  • Metro Health Club
Metro Health Club
  • Metro Pool

  • Hero Training Center
Hero Training Center
  • Marvel Design Studio
Marvel Design Studio
  • Superhero Station
Marvel Design Studio

While these are great for, again, people who love the comics, we don’t feel these amenities are enough to really justify the price of a room at this hotel. But what about the room itself? Does that change things?

Our Room

We were placed in a standard room at the hotel with a Garden View, which at this hotel is called a “Superior Room.” However, this is just a marketing tactic, so don’t be fooled by the wording (though we fully realize this isn’t just a Art of Marvel hotel thing — we see this type of marketing used elsewhere all the time!).

Superior Room with a Garden View

Our room was relatively spacious by European standards, but if you’re coming from the United States like we were, you may feel like it’s still a little small, especially for the price. Everything was comfortable — the beds and pillows were great and we didn’t notice any issues with them, but were they anything out of this world? No, not at all. There are a few different seating options throughout the room, but again, it wasn’t anything we felt was worth $1,000 a night.

Seating area near the windows

Our windows were a set of six small windows that looked out over part of the front area of the hotel (one of them opened a bit), and while we saw a bit of the water, we don’t feel this was a spectacular view. Was it bad? No, not at all, but again, remember the price point.

View from our hotel room

There were two aspects of the room that we did feel were quite unique, though. The first was the Bluetooth speaker in the bathroom, which you can connect to your phone whenever you’d like. Jam out in the shower, while you’re getting dressed — whatever you’d like.

Use the bluetooth speaker in here to jam out

You’ll also see that the TV in the room is behind a darkened mirror, so before the TV is on, it just looks like there’s a mirror in front of the beds.

Before turning the TV on

Then, when you turn the TV on, it’s visible through the mirror!

TV in the mirror

If you’re hoping to watch TV during the day, we do recommend closing the blackout curtains so there’s no glare, but otherwise, this worked very well. You also get complimentary Disney+ access in your room, which we thought was a nice touch, and there’s an HDMI port so you could connect your own device to the TV, if you’d like.

Complimentary Disney+

Again, there was nothing wrong with the room, but to know we paid a grand per night here? Yeah, we don’t even feel that the theming in the room was enough to justify it — there was some artwork in the room, and some Marvel color scheme throughout the decorations, but that was about it.

Artwork in the room

Overall, if you’re a massive fan of the Marvel comics or love artwork in general, you’d likely love looking around at all the different sketches and art displays throughout the hotel. It feels like stepping into a Marvel comic book itself, so if that’s up your alley, you likely won’t regret your stay.

Art of Marvel Hotel

However, for everyone else, including big fans of the Marvel FILMS like we are, we don’t recommend. Remember, you can stay at a different hotel and step inside Art of Marvel to look at the design without spending the money to actually stay here. Personally, when I visited Disneyland Paris two years ago, I stayed at Disney’s Sequoia Lodge, and absolutely loved it — much more affordable, great theming, and only about a 15-minute walk from the parks.

  1. Another agreement that the price is nuts but paying tribute to the artists is amazing. It is also worth mentioning that the architecture of the hotel is still dictated by what was designed in the 80s by Michael Graves so the Marvel “redesign” has at least made that more up to date. Another comment is that NO hotel within DLP has a grab-and-go area or anything like this, even the more expensive ones. Lastly, buying your tickets + DLP hotel room together is usually a better deal than buying these things separately as the cost of the hotel subsidizes your ticket cost; it also means that there are no silly reservations or anything like that to worry about so it’s not easy to work out the cost of the room in this way. However, you CAN book the rooms only through Disney directly or other tour operators, rather than extrapolate from a package cost.

  2. I agree the price is crazy, but I think paying homage to the artists is a great idea. Both Marvel and DC films lately have credited the comic book writers and artists, and it’s worthwhile to remember that the seeds for the cinematic universe were planted decades ago, and brought to life by greats like Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko.
