The One WEIRD Reason We Can't Wait for the Cinderella Castle Changes at Magic Kingdom

Disney made quite a few announcements about Disney World this weekend at Destination D23. Carousel of Progress is getting a major update, TRON Lightcycle / Run is getting an overlay for Trom: Ares, and Cinderella Castle is getting a makeover!

Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom will soon return to its classic color palette. The grays, blues, creams, and gold accents will return, and the current light pink color will be no more.

The color palette currently on display at Cinderella Castle was introduced for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary. For the 50th, the castle was also adorned with golden decorations and EARidescent accents. However, the 50th Anniversary Celebration only lasted until March 31st, 2023.

Now it has been over two years since the celebration, and the pink color still remains. Many Disney fans were left wondering if Cinderella Castle would return to its classic colors or if the pink was here to stay. It appears that Disney has finally decided to return Cinderella Castle to its classic colors.

While you might love or hate this news, there is at least one positive aspect to Cinderella Castle getting its classic colors back. We spoke with someone who professionally engineers projection mapping, and they told us that the standard best color to project onto is gray. Here is a look at what Cinderella Castle used to look like with its classic colors:

That means that the projections on Cinderella Castle will look best on a gray color, and the new color palette will likely help the projections pop more than they did on the pink color. We are definitely intrigued to see the difference with the projections!

Disney hasn’t announced exactly when Cinderella Castle will be receiving its makeover, but we are excited to see it and also see if the projections look better with a gray background instead of the current pink background.
