Disney Files NEW Permit for Abandoned Star Wars Hotel

We might be getting some news soon about Disney’s Galactic Starcruiser, and here’s why.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, Disney’s immersive Star Wars-themed hotel experience near Disney’s Hollywood Studios, officially closed its doors in September 2023 after operating for just over two years. The unique concept, which allowed guests to live out a multi-day Star Wars adventure, was praised for its creativity but ultimately struggled to find a sustainable audience. But, is there some news we could be getting soon?

On August 27th, a new Notice of Commencement permit was filed for the former Starcruiser building. Listed as Project H, the permit comes with a one-year expiration and is assigned to Balfour Beatty Construction, a major contractor Disney often works with on large-scale developments.

After the closure, Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro noted that while the Starcruiser “represented a creative leap forward,” it “didn’t work commercially.” Since then, fans and industry observers have speculated about what might replace the expansive facility.

We previously learned that “Walt Disney Imagineering will be using the building as a hub for several expansion projects coming to Disney World.” Sources also said that “several playtests were conducted in that part of the old Starcruiser building, with Cast Members filling in for paying guests. But the tests would be for a potential dining experience in the theme park, not in the Starcruiser building itself.”

Still, there are a ton of new and exciting projects on the horizon for Disney World, like the Tropical Americas-themed expansion in Animal Kingdom, as well as the Monsters, Inc. Land in Hollywood Studios that Imagineers will be able to work on in the building that was once the Starcruiser.

Looks like office space to me!

While we don’t have much information on this project yet, we will keep our eyes out for more. Be sure to follow AllEars.net.

  1. How about a Hollywwod themed “hotel” exclusive to the Disney Studios theme park, a small version of the people mover could shuttle hotel guest back an forth to the theme park from the hotel … I’d stay there.

  2. I would like to experience an outdoor barbeque in the atmosphere of being on the moon with vehicles themed to take me into space and view the earth and planets. Disney can do the imagination for this as easy as slicing bread.

  3. Disney’s wasteful spending. This concept failed because it was overpriced. It was unaffordable. I have this love hate relationship with Disney. They take the money they make and blow it on constant construction never asking the public what it would like to see.
