Magic Kingdom is going through TONS of construction projects and refurbishments right now, certainly more than I’ve ever seen at one time!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is under refurbishment until 2026, the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island are officially closed off to make way for the new Piston Peak land, and construction on Villains Land is underway as well. However, this is your reminder that ANOTHER closure is about to hit the parks soon, and you’ll want to be ready!
Disney announced back in March that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin would be closing for a refurbishment, but it wasn’t until months later that we found out the timeline. The final day of operation for this version of the ride is August 3rd, meaning it will close and refurbishments will begin on August 4th.

Lots of changes are coming to this ride, but we’re looking forward to all of them! In a brand new scene, a friendly robot named Buddy will greet you and play a key role on the Star Command team. He’ll be in charge of helping you understand how to play the game on the ride so no one is confused.

That’s because the way you shoot at targets is also changing! The current Z targets in the attraction today will be upgraded with new technology to react and light up when hit, which means it’ll hopefully be easier to tell when you’ve successfully hit a target and earned points.

The ride will also feature new handheld blasters, making it much easier to aim and shoot at targets. The blasters will also include an “always-on laser” that comes in two different colors per vehicle, plus new lighting, sound, and vibration effects.

Finally, the ride vehicles themselves will be getting a new look that’s inspired by the colors of Buzz Lightyear and Star Command, as well as video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates.

At this time, we don’t have a reopening date, but we’re looking forward to riding the newly improved attraction when the time comes!

They can refurbish as much as they want, but the more of Walr they cancel from the park the less good and less magical, by far. Right now, I think they’re skating on thin ice, which if it breaks will result in total failure.
