There seems to be a big theme with Disney World this year…and that theme is CHANGE.

Everything is changing. Entire lands are closing to make way for new lands. New rides are on their way. New shows and new entertainment will be arriving soon. Even Disney World hotels are changing, including Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, which is getting a brand new lobby. Now, we have an idea of what that new lobby is going to look like.
The refurbishment of the Grand Floridian’s lobby follows a multi-year refurbishment of the hotel that also included updated guest rooms and updated dining spaces. The new lobby will feature its very own bar inspired by the lobby’s birdcage. The new bar “will pay tribute to the resort’s Victorian roots with intricate woodwork, stained glass, and brass accents. The Victorian cage-style elevator will still sit opposite the bar. Speaking of the birdcage, it’s missing in the concept art, so it seems the bar may replace it.

The rest of the lobby is also getting refreshed with “a mix of botanical accents and inviting colors to create an airy, garden-like atmosphere. ” This will include new carpeting and Victorian-inspired borders and scrollwork. The furnishings in the lobby will also get updated and will “blend rich finishes and brass accents with cozy, welcoming fabrics–plus a few playful touches inspired by Florida’s natural beauty and Victorian decorating trends. ”
To compare, here’s what the lobby currently looks like:

We’ll be keeping an eye on construction at the Grand Floridian and let you know when the new lobby will be ready, so check back with AllEars again soon for more.

What do you think about the new lobby concept art? Let us know in the comments!
Nope. Not liking this look at all. Waste of money. Things can be freshened up without all this.
I have a hunch this Lobby renovation will include the re-opening of the Garden View Tearoom. Two years ago, while dining at Victoria & Albert’s, my waiter told me there were plans to redo the Tearoom as part of a lobby redesign. It’s hard to tell from the concept art, but at the end of the lobby behind the 3 stained-glassed arched windows, it appears that there are two doors at either end of the windowed wall. And behind those windows appears to be another light-filled space with floor-length, draped windows. Voila! The new Tearoom! (I hope I’m not hallucinating.)
