Disney Just Dropped 4 HUGE Announcements

Disney was in a sharing mood yesterday.

Magic Kingdom

2024 is likely going to be looked upon as a watershed year for Disney theme parks in the decades to come, as the year saw Disney announce or confirm many projects. Some were long-rumored and discussed, such as the Monsters, Inc. land at Hollywood Studios, the expansion of California Adventure’s Avengers Campus, and the news that a Villains Land was finally being built at the Magic Kingdom. Others like the Rivers of America being replaced by Cars or the Muppets taking over the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster shocked many. Several smaller projects were also announced and begun, including restaurants and refurbishments. On December 3rd, 2024, Disney (seemingly) capped the year by releasing some new timeline information about several of these projects, giving us a loose timeline for what to expect in 2025 and beyond.

Test Track Timeline

EPCOT’s massive E-Ticket has been closed since mid-2024 as the attraction undergoes the second major transformation of its lifespan. The result of this refurbishment, which has been dubbed colloquially as Test Track 3.0, is set to be “a joy ride through scenes focusing on onboard technology, customization and personalization. Followed by a trip through a scenic outdoor route reminding us all of the joys of driving, taking in the world around us and spending quality time with friends and family” according to Disney.

In addition, the company has teased that the new version of the attraction will feature easter eggs and references to World of Motion, the original opening day EPCOT attraction that once stood where Test Track does now. As part of their December 3rd announcements, Disney set a late 2025 timeframe for the reopening of Test Track.

Spaceship Earth Lounge

Disney also announced a Spaceship Earth Lounge coming to EPCOT. This new eating establishment, which will be attached to the iconic attraction, is “inspired by the stories, shapes, and enduring legacy of this timeless icon.

Taking inspiration from the geometric sphere, the zen space to gather and enjoy refreshments will be draped with rich textures and warm metallic tones, giving it a mysterious and elegant intimacy” according to Disney. The lounge, which will offer “sweeping views” of the park’s fireworks, is scheduled to open in the late spring of 2025.

Pirates of the Caribbean

One of the Magic Kingdom’s iconic rides is also getting a themed lounge of its own.

Located in Adventureland, the new Pirates of The Caribbean According to Disney, this eatery “will welcome pirates of all ages with a sea-worthy selection of grogs and grub” and is scheduled to open in late 2025.

Countdown to Extinction

(No, we couldn’t resist)

In 2024, Disney confirmed what had long been suspected: DinoLand U.S.A. was being replaced at Animal Kingdom. The opening day land and its attractions are being closed in stages to make room for a new Tropical Americas expansion featuring rides based on Encanto and Indiana Jones. However, longtime fans will be able to have a chance to bid adieu to Dinosaur, as Disney has confirmed that the attraction will be open throughout 2025, seemingly indicating that the attraction will be open until 2026.
