Fans Are WORRIED About What’s Missing From Disney World’s Villains Land Announcement

If you’re anything like me, you’ve still been buzzing since the original announcement that a Villains Land would be coming to Magic Kingdom.

Magic Kingdom

I mean, who wouldn’t be? A whole section of the park dedicated to Disney’s most iconic baddies? Yes, please! But as much as we’re hyped about this expansion, there’s been a more recent announcement about the coming land and something about it was glaringly missing, and we’re all concerned. So let’s talk about it!

As we were saying, there’s a brand new Villains Land coming to the Magic Kingdom, and just for reference, it will be located “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain.” There are going to be a TON of new attractions, dining, and more that we’ll get to experience when it opens.

I hear you saying, “That’s all well and good, but what was missing from the announcement?” Glad you asked. We’re getting there. So, at D23 Brazil, Disney shared their expected character lineup that will be coming to Villains Land, and thanks to the Omelete entertainment website on X, we can have a look at the list for ourselves.

Did you catch what’s missing or rather…who’s missing from the list? We’re talking about Doctor Facilier from The Princess and the Frog!

The Shadow Man Deserves Better

Doctor Facilier, aka the Shadow Man, has got to be one of Disney’s most compelling villains. I mean with his suave charm, eerie connection to the “other side,” and that unforgettable musical number (Friends on the Other Side), he’s earned his spot as a fan favorite. So why isn’t he on this list?

Dr. Facilier

This snub is even more frustrating when you realize the new Villains Land is planned to be beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which is right next to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. How cool would it have been to see Facilier haunting the area, creating a pretty seamless connection between the two attractions? Instead, it feels like Disney has missed a golden opportunity to integrate one of their most dynamic villains into the park’s overall storytelling.

But this isn’t the first time Facilier has been left out of the Magic Kingdom. We were already disappointed when he was excluded from Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and given his pivotal role in the film, his absence was surprising. Now history seems to be repeating itself.

Jafar and Facilier

And it’s not like Facilier doesn’t have the range. He’s charismatic, spooky, and visually striking, which are all the things you’d want in a park villain. Plus, his “Friends on the Other Side” could have added some serious spooky vibes to the Villains Land experience. A dark, voodoo-inspired section? Yes, we’d love to see it. But alas, at the moment, we’ve got no Shadow Man.

He’s got friends on the other side!

More Villains We’re Missing

While Facilier’s exclusion stings the most, he’s actually not the only villain Disney overlooked. Here are some other classic baddies that didn’t make the cut:

    • Scar (The Lion King)
    • King Magnifico (Wish)
    • Zurg (Toy Story)
    • Lotso (Toy Story 3)
    • Syndrome (The Incredibles)
    • Ernesto De La Cruz (Coco)
    • Randall (Monsters, Inc.)
    • Te Kā (Moana)
    • Prince Hans (Frozen)
    • Clayton (Tarzan)
    • Governor Ratcliffe (Pocahontas)
    • Hopper (A Bug’s Life)
    • Shan Yu (Mulan)
    • Claude Frollo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)

So What’s Next?

Well, Disney still has time to tweak their plans for Villains Land, and here’s hoping that Doctor Facilier and maybe some of the other villains above get the recognition they deserve. After all, we’re talking about Disney villains here, the crème de la crème of animated antagonists. For now, though, we’re keeping our fingers crossed and hoping the Shadow Man gets his moment in the Magic Kingdom spotlight.

  1. Firstly has anyone else noticed most of the bad guys are women and secondly is that not Maleficent twice in the photo? In the middle and as a dragon bottom right?
