Anytime you’re planning a trip to Disney World, it’s very important to keep track of the calendar. Between park hours, ride closures, special events, and after-hours offerings, there’s often plenty to plan around. For example, anyone planning to head to the Magic Kingdom at the end of January should take heed of a just-announced early closure.

As is visible on the Walt Disney World calendar, the Magic Kingdom is scheduled to close to the general public at 4:30PM — yes, really — on January 30th.

That means that anyone planning to visit the Magic Kingdom that day should bear in mind that there will be no fireworks to see that night, nor will a late dinner even be a possibility. We’d recommend planning to visit a different park that day or at least have a ticket with a Park Hopper option to visit a different Disney World park for the second half of the day.

Guests will need to exit early on January 30th

So, why is the Magic Kingdom closing early that day? Well, we’re not 100% sure, but generally, a closure around that time indicates a private event, possibly for Cast Members, that evening.

There’s also another, much further reaching closure at the Magic Kingdom in January. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closing at the start of the month and will be down for at least a year. It’s thought that this refurbishment will be tied to the start of the construction of Disney World’s Cars Frontierland expansion and new Villains Land.
