It has been a long time coming, but The Cake Bake Shop on the BoardWalk is getting closer and closer to opening in Disney World.

In 2020, the ESPN Club closed on the BoardWalk along with the rest of Disney World due to the pandemic. When the parks re-opened, the ESPN Club remained closed, and in 2022, it was officially announced that the ESPN Club would be replaced after being open since 1996. It did not take long for a replacement to be announced; in November 2022, it was announced that The Cake Bake Shop would replace it. Well, The Cake Bake Shop just reached another milestone, and some fans are upset.
The Cake Bake Shop was set to open in 2023, but it was later pushed back to the fall of 2024. Recently, the walls have started to come down, a new lightning effect was added to the sign, and the menu was revealed for this new dining location.

While The Cake Bake Shop still does not have an official opening date, fans were shocked to see the prices on the menu.

When we announced that the menu had been posted, our readers had some strong feelings. One reader said, “I look forward to the new restaurant after this ridiculous place closes. Trattoria al Forno has a terrific breakfast at a reasonable price. We will never set foot in The Cake Bake Ripoff. Just for context, we are owners at BoardWalk Villas.”

Another reader said that they “Will never eat there. Between airfare to/from the airport, passes, and all the other meals, this one meal would equal three meals on another day. Ridiculous.”

Other readers pointed out that they do not feel that this new restaurant belongs on the BoardWalk. A reader said, “You know where this would fit better? In Disney Springs! The Boardwalk needs a sports bar!” Another reader agreed with their suggestion and said, “This did not belong on a boardwalk! Disney Springs would have been a better location. The BoardWalk needs a bar/restaurant for the family.”
Earlier this year, the Big River Grille closed on the BoardWalk, leaving the BoardWalk without a sports bar when it previously had two. While ESPN Club is being replaced with the soon-to-be-opened The Cake Bake Shop, no announcements have been made on what will replace Big River Grille. For right now, a food truck is parked outside of the old location from time to time.

The news of The Cake Bake Shop has some fans excited. One person said, “It sounds delicious, and I cannot wait to try this new place once it opens.” Another reader joked that they go to the BoardWalk to exercise at night, and now they will need to walk around twice after a visit to The Cake Bake Shop!

We are eagerly anticipating dining here, and our readers also can’t wait. As one reader said, “I can’t wait for you to release a video on this when it opens because the food better be huge for the price and beyond fantastic tasting.” We will keep an eye out for anything new regarding The Cake Bake Shop, so make sure to stay tuned to AllEars!

I think the biggest problem is what as been touched lightly by others here – this is a DVC & hotel it needs to have a mix of restaurant types. As it is now, BWI has a deli, pizza window, corn dogs, one reasonably priced Italian restaurant and two signature restaurants. I can’t imagine this would be a big draw when you can hop on the Skyliner to eat at Topolino’s with characters & a great view for similar food and price. They really need another reasonably price TS for guests who have planned at day at the hotel
I live close to both Cake Bake locations in Indy and the first time I walked in I thought “This place belongs in WDW!”. The “Disney Tax” prices are a little higher than they are here but in line with an upscale resort experience. The cake slices are large and easily sharable. Yes, it is a splurge experience and you are partly paying for ambiance but the same can be said of many WDW venues. I predict that it will do very well.
I have to go long with most comments. Those prices are high even by Disney standards. $18 for buttered noodles? Seriously? As Long as there’s the Boardwalk Bakery and Trattoria al Forno, there’s no need for us to walk any farther down the Boardwalk for a, meal.
My DVC home is the Boardwalk. This restaurant does not belong here. It has NOTHING to do with the Jersey shore or east coast USA. Boardwalk needs a deli/sports bar, something for the entire family, not just the high maintenance family members. It is too fancy, prissy and pricey for this location and again, has no connection to AC or the east coast.
Honestly, I’ve been to a Cake Bake and was not impressed. The frosting wasn’t great, the cake was a little dry – and not much flavor. I don’t even think we finished what we bought. Definitely not a place I would go back to.
We all know Disney can be high-priced. Some places fit visitors budgets and some don’t. No reason to whinge about it. Just walk on by if it’s not for you. We can’t wait to try it next year!!!
Absolutely insane, even by Disney standards. I guess some people are willing to pay anything for nothing worthwhile. It shows the kids meals at $18 and that includes a PBandJ sandwich.
👎 NO the other peson who said the pricing was ridiculous is right…they need to get their grubby little hands on every penny they can. Their purpose is not to make people’s experience enjoyable but simply to make money!!! I have no desire to come there anymore and it used to be my favorite place to go. They’ve made it impossible to afford for the average family so it will either be a place where some people will never get to go to or a once in a lifetime experience
The prices are outrageous. I can afford the prices but I wouldn’t go there. I don’t like getting ripped off.
Just another Disney rip off!
This restaurant is a joke $8 for ice tea. These companies see Disney and want to be part of it to get as much money as possible. People who spend money at these places must have money to burn.
No matter the pricing, that’s a tough spot for that type of restaurant. Only drawing from immediate hotels, not many our leaving EPCOT for it. The pricing wont help.
