It’s official! CARS LAND is coming to Magic Kingdom at Disney World!
During the recent D23 news drop, we learned that a new nighttime parade, Villains Land, and Cars Land are all headed to the Happiest Place on Earth. At first, we didn’t know just where Cars Land would pop up, but Disney Adults were certainly feeling passionate once we found out for sure — and they have been utterly eviscerating a classic Magic Kingdom ride in the process.
Buckle up, y’all because we’re about to go FAST. During the D23 Horizons Panel, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro revealed that a NEW area inspired by Pixar’s Cars will be coming to “a reimagined section of Frontierland at Magic Kingdom.”
The updated area will feature two new Cars attractions. One will be a “thrilling rally race through the mountains. Take on wild terrain as you race across the landscape climbing mountain trails, dodging geysers and — Mater’s favorite — splashing through mudholes.”
At first, we weren’t quite sure just where this new land would be located in Frontierland, but it turns out that Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America will be reimagined to transform this new land.
It’s likely no surprise that Disney Adults have a lot of opinions on the matter, and we can’t help but feel bad for one Magic Kingdom attraction, in particular. Tomorrowland Speedway is getting absolutely ROASTED in the comment section of one of our Facebook posts.
Apparently, when Disney announced Cars would be coming to Magic Kingdom, quite a few folks thought that Tomorrowland Speedway was on the chopping block. And, honestly, we can see why. It’s often the top answer we hear when we ask readers about which Disney World ride needs refurbishment.
It’s a loud, stinky, gas-powered car attraction that might be synonymous with the Tomorrowland we once knew, but it’s certainly not a futuristic attraction. Heck, it’s not even really a “present” attraction at this point, thanks to the growing popularity of electric cars.
One reader commented that “[Disney] should just replace the speedway,” while another said, “Even though Cars is not replacing Tomorrow Land [sic] Speedway, ya’ll [sic] can’t still feel free to tear it down.”
Still, we’re excited to see just how Cars Land will play out at Magic Kingdom. We know that a brand-new, thrilling ride will have you racing through the mountains, climbing trails, and dodging geysers. Plus, a second ride will be a racing ride geared towards the whole family. Other than that, though, Disney is keeping the details pretty quiet for now.

It would make a lot more sense to tear out this Tomorrowland Expressway ride and replace it with the Cars ride. Or, better yet, put Cars Land in Hollywood Studios.
Would love to see something truly futuristic on Tomorrowland in place of the gas powered Yesterland speedway. Even the reimagining of Test Track appears to be moving to celebrating the history of transportation and (I think) may put us in high tech cars.
