When most people think about Disney World food, they’re likely imagining chicken tenders, burgers, puffy pizza, and more typical theme park food.

And, while you can still get all that around the parks and hotels, there is so much more to Disney World food! The parks have especially come a long way when it comes to special diets and allergies — but it can be tough to know the best spots for these eats! So, come with me to try a plant-based meal at Animal Kingdom!
I’m heading over to Pizzafari at Animal Kingdom to check out a plant-based meal and find out if it’s worth a try! The Plant-Based Italian Sausage Sandwich is made with plant-based Italian sausage on a bun with caramelized onions and peppers and served with a small Italian salad for $10.79.

First things first, this is a pretty decent value for the price! The sandwich itself certainly isn’t small, and the side salad was nothing to balk at either. And once I tried the sandwich, things just got even better. The plant-based sausage has a TON of flavor — if you’ve had the one at PizzeRizzo, this one is more flavorful and a bit spicer as well.

The peppers and onions are cooked well — they have a ton of flavor and aren’t too mushy, which sometimes happens when sauteed peppers and onions sit for a bit. I would have personally liked a bit more seasoning on the peppers to go with the saltiness of the “sausage,” but that’s really my only complaint.

The salad is also different and utilizes fat-free Italian dressing instead of the vegan ranch served at PizzeRizzo. I loved that the salad had tomato and cucumber and, at least in this case, the lettuce was much fresher and crispier than the PizzeRizzo salad, which gives you lettuce and dressing alone. This Italian dressing is tangy and delicious, but the portion they give you is more than what you might normally use to dress a salad the size, so that’s something to be mindful of.

Honestly, I think the plant-based Italian sausage sandwich from Pizzafari at Animal Kingdom is easily going into my rotation as the resident AllEars vegan! I like the one over at PizzeRizzo as well, but the Pizzafari version is much more flavorful and doesn’t leave me covered in marinara sauce.
