Disney World is constantly evolving.

From new rides that are in the works to entire lands getting overhauled, things are always changing. But one park in particular has seen the most change in the last few years — EPCOT. The park’s multi-year transformation has been a major project, and we’ve gotten some exciting additions out of it — Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Connections Cafe & Eatery, and Creations Shop to name a few. But Disney’s latest updates to this park have been particularly popular — here’s how.
Test Track
During Destination D23, Disney shared that Test Track would be getting a reimagining.

While we don’t have a lot of information to go on, Disney did share that with this updated version of the ride, they would be “reaching back into history for inspiration – from the original World of Motion — and bringing that spirit of optimism to the next iteration of Test Track.”

World of Motion, the attraction that existed before Test Track took its place, was an omnimover dark ride that took guests through “the invention of the wheel right up to the present day and beyond.”

Seeing as many Disney fans’ gripes with all of the changes to the parks have to do with replacing things they once knew and loved, paying respect to an older attraction is an exciting choice for many!
Soarin’ Over California
Speaking of older rides, before Soarin’ Around the World debuted in EPCOT in 2016, it was Soarin’ Over California — the original attraction that was loved by many.

In honor of the Disney World Company’s 100th anniversary, EPCOT is bringing back Soarin’ Over California for a limited time — starting September 22nd!

This is yet another attraction that many fans have missed, so this decision is pretty popular. Folks are excited to once again smell the orange scent that accompanies the orange grove scene!

Disney hasn’t yet shared the end date for this change, but bet this ride will be pretty popular while it’s around.
Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana
Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana will be opening soon — and many have already gotten a preview. While some believe this should have been put in Disney’s Animal Kingdom rather than EPCOT, many guests who have had the opportunity to experience it (including us!) think that it’s right at home, given its old EPCOT feel.

In the past, EPCOT was known for having some of the best “edutainment,” with attractions that merged education and, well, entertainment. While that still exists throughout the park in some ways today, many think that focus has started to disappear.

In this Moana-themed attraction, guests are encouraged to “play with magical, living water” while also learning about the “importance of the natural water cycle” and preserving water as a resource. Seems to fit right in with EPCOT’s edutainment theme to us!
Figment Meet-and-Greet
Lastly, the people love Figment — there’s no escaping that fact. Just look at the mania his popcorn bucket drew at the Festival of the Arts.

So, when Disney announced that a Figment meet-and-greet was coming to the park — people were thrilled!

On the morning of his debut, the line to meet him stretched WAY outside of the building.

The love of this Figment news, as with the rest of these popular changes, seems to stem from a nostalgia that Disney fans have been leaning into lately. While it’s fun to get shiny new updates in the parks, it seems that Disney’s most popular changes lately have to do with honoring its past.

If you’re planning a visit to EPCOT soon, Fry Bucket made a video about some things you should never do there. You can watch it right here.
